"I done wrestled with an alligator, I done tussled with a whale; handcuffed lightning, thrown thunder in jail; only last week, I murdered a rock, injured a stone, hospitalized a brick; I'm so mean I make medicine sick." - Muhammad Ali. Muhammad Ali, born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. Passes away tonight. He was considered Boxing greatest fighter with 56 wins, 37 knock outs and 5 losses. A 1960's Gold Medalist on light heavyweight boxing and a 3 time Heavyweight champion 1964-1967, 1974-1978, and 1978 to 1979. Much of his prime were spent in exile away from boxing when he refused to sign up for the draft. Back then Americans were very openly racist towards blacks and Ali refused to fight a war for a nation that oppressed his people and openly targeted, hated, and denied his race the basic civil liberties saying "Ain't no Vietnamese ever called me -racist expletive-. On his return after being allowed to box again he went on to win the Heavyweight title from George Forman. Ali was more than a boxer, he was a generational icon who fought against oppression much more than he fought against boxing opponents and paved the way to a more open minded and freer nation and world. He will be missed. This has to be my favorite picture of the legend. "Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. Your hands can't hit what your eyes can't see!"
Re: RIP Mohammed Ali. RIP champ.. I am always appreciative of how much of a social activist and humanist he was.. Some of his big fights like the rumble in the jungle (Zaire) and Thrilla in Manilla (Philippines) were done as part of his bringing highlight to the third world and its challenges (which sadly we still face to this day).. There are few sports icons that are globally recognized as a champion and Ali is one of them.. Rest in peace️
Ali frazier Ali foreman Pretty much defines heavyweight boxing a true legend. He was a real american hero and one more nail in the coffin today for boxing.
Interesting that it's his daughter in the "60 days in" jail show, but full respect to the greatest boxer ever, if you've watched Ali v Frasier , you've seen sports kings at their finest Rip
"Now Clay swings with a right, what a beautiful swing. And the punch raises the Bear clear out of the ring. Liston is still rising, and the ref wears a frown. For he can't start counting 'til Sonny comes down. Now Liston disappears from view. The crowd is getting frantic, But our radar stations have picked him up. He's somewhere over the Atlantic. Who would have thought when they came to the fight That they'd witness the launching of a human satellite. Yes, the crowd did not dream when they lay down their money That they would see a total eclipse of the Sonny. I am the greatest." — Part of a poem before his upset title victory over Sonny Liston Feb. 25, 1964. RIP
"I'm so fast that last night I turned off the light switch in my hotel room and was in bed before the room was dark". You can have the light on in the daytime
I was looking at some footage of Ali last night and found something interesting. A guy was going to jump off a building, Ali was in the neighborhood and heard about it. He went to that building, got to the floor the man was on, stuck his head out the window and yelled to the guy, "I am your brother, I want to help you." After he and the man talked awhile, the man let him come into the same room he was in, as Ali got closer to the man, he saw who it was, they talked more and the man decided it was not worth it to commit suicide. Be like Ali, help people who have struggles in their life, it will make you feel better about yourself.
"I'm not the greatest; I'm the double greatest. Not only do I knock 'em out, I pick the round." If this is his last round, let it be known, that he was The Greatest. When it comes to global sporting icons, I consider only Ali as Jordan's rival to the throne. Though, when it comes to Ali's platform and what he stood up for, his greatness is unparalleled. In hindsight, Ali's refusal to fight in Vietnam and subsequent imprisonment at the height of his career was not only him standing up for the "colored man" here and abroad. In-fact, Ali was standing up for all humanity. Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajioon.
