Price change for Apple users.

Discussion in 'Questions/Feedback' started by -_-OPTIMAL-_-CHAOS-_-, Jan 17, 2017.

  1. Apple have announced ( see BBC news )
That price increments for U.K. Consumers, will be matched numerically to the dollar rate.

For example a purchase that now costs 99 cents = 79 pence will change to 99 cents and 99 pence. Regardless of exchange rate.
This applies to all Apple Store purchases including in app purchases.

This represents an increase of 25% rise of the previous currency conversion

If you aren't on a droid. Here's the last reason you need to change.

I guess they will blame brexit for this rip off too.

  2. Re: warning for Apple users.

You should be able to make purchases on PC to bypass the Apple price hike. I am not 100% sure though as I am android user.

  3. Re: warning for Apple users.

Would recommend that method to all playersin Uk, turkey and India
There is apparently going to be new price settings available for developers available.
But how this could apply for purchases of the same quantity for different players per nation.
It seems like it would be hard to implement, and some devs ( not ata ) have already said they won't bother with the new price changes due to the difficulties it would create.

This move is totally apples decision and NOT ATA, which adds to the kick in the teeth to Uk players and developers trying to sell at a fair costing system where people should pay the same for the same item.

  4. Re: warning for Apple users.

With today curent exchange rate we finally pay nearly the same as US players (0.98usd/xtal). For years we paid way much more. Yes, it is Apple's decision not ATA's. But there is something that ATA can do. The subscriptions prices won't change. So ATA could implement a subscription system. Tho one week it is kinda short term.
Switching to Android it's just a short term solution. It's just a matter of day until Google will do the same. They always follow Apple when it's about price increase. They just let them to do it first so Apple is always the big bad wolf.

  5. Re: warning for Apple users.

The correct jump allowing for vat would only be 82 pence on the cheapest purchases.
Yes I think ata could adjust packages to Uk players to compensate for the increased purchase price. But that won't happen.

And when exchange rates are stronger again as and when that happens, the % will jump again giving Apple even greater profits ripping Uk players off even further on every purchase.

It would be appreciated if devs could state their feelings on this.
I predict a drop off in Uk sales as the game becomes increasingly expensive and through no fault of the devs worse value for money to Uk turkey and India players.

Would they consider changing the content of packs for Uk players for example?

This would not be unreasonable, when you consider with the 25% hike in price we are spending the same amount of real money as USA players buying 5 packs but only receiving the content of 4 packs.
That's a huge screw job by Apple.
And if it damages sales for apps then it's not just the players that lose out as developers will lose out on income too.

  6. Re: warning for Apple users.

ATA can't adjust prices. They need to follow Apple's price tiers. Basically what Apple is doing now for UK, India and Turkey is to change the price for each tier. ATA has put one health crystal in Tier1 price which has the price set by Apple at 79pence for UK at this point and 99pence starting next week. The only price adjust that ATA can do is to change the price tier. Basically to put a health crystal in Tier 0 which means free xtals lol. On bigger packs yes it can be done. At this point the 3.99pounds packs are price Tier 5. ATA can chose to put them in price Tier 4. Like this the price for us is not changed. The problem is that ATA must chose the same price tiers for all stores. Moving the curent 3.99pounds pack from Tier 5 to Tier 4 means that for US App Store to price will go from 4.99USD to 3.99USD. So the problem will still be there: we are still going to pay more than our american friends.

  7. Re: warning for Apple users.

This happened in Canada a long time ago, stuff went from 4.99$ to 6.99$ it sucked but it's the norm now. You'll get used to it and forget it happened everntually

  8. Re: warning for Apple users.

    @ vlad.
That's exactly why I first stated that Apple essentially screwed developers with this move.
Though they have introduced a new lower price point that developers may choose.
However I don't see any developer opting to use it for any existing offer.
Just perhaps offering a new package.

I could see a way around it potentially, but it would upset players from other countries not getting the same perceived reduction even if it would be just a balancing action.

For now going to stick to purchases using anything but Apple accounts.

  9. Re: warning for Apple users.

Meanwhile in Australia it cost 160 dollars to buy the huge xstal pack...

And 120 dollars for 765 nobility

  10. Do yall not realize that the euro is wourth more than the us dollar? Do you not understand that it will actually make it fair for everyone else that you pay the same as us. Its economics wake up. The euro is wourth more than the us dollar not only that most people in europe make more than americans anyways. Dont get mad its fair.

  11. UK got pounds (£) not euros (€) or us dollars ($), bro.

  12. Re: warning for Apple users.

Paypal purchases are not free unless you link your bank account to your PayPal account. Not exactly the smartest thing to do. If you use your debit or credit card to make purchases in UK from an US/Canada merchant you actually pay 3.9%+20pence fixed fee. Basically if you buy a 1pound worth item you pay 1.24 pounds.

  13. Don't get mad. No one is mad. But your math sucks.
Yes the euro and pound are worth more.
We already pay the equivalent based on the exchange rate.
This new system means that the uk, turkey and Indian Apple users will pay far more. 25% more than their US counterparts for exactly the same product.

No one minds paying a fair amount. Being ripped off by Apple Everyone should care.
And an FYI the exchange rate adding vat should change to Uk customers paying 82 pence at current exchange rate on 99 cents.
Apple are gaining 17 pence extra for every 99 cent purchase
When you multiply that to the larger packs. That becomes a substantial difference in price.

Then consider that's every app and in app purchase across three nations, that's millions being overcharged daily.

So again. Yes customers should care. As should developers that will see a reduction in their profits due to these increases.
