Poetry Wars 2: Sign Up

Discussion in 'Fan Fiction' started by FeatherHunter, Oct 21, 2011.

  1. I know there has been a Poetry War before. I've heard it was amazing. Marvelous. Magnificent. Et cetera.

Well, in an effort to bring more forms of literature into Fan Fiction, I want to hold another one. This Poetry War will be like no other! Want to know why? Feather is judging! Along with two other qualified personnel.

Here's the what you need to do to participate:

Submit a semi-long poem. This can be any type of poem. Include your level. Levels will be explained below.

Now, in an effort to emulate Lady-Marian, I've decided to do the things the way she did.

This is the original post by her about the poetry wars (with a few snipping, so it'll be shorter, and will explain what I'm doing so that it's not exactly like hers):

    The Poetry Wars Sign Up

The Poetry Wars. This is the thread you've been waiting for. Yes, you! I'm talking to you. Even if you are inexperienced about writing poetry you can sign up. When I create the official poetry wars thread, I will have more detailed rules and explanations, but here's a brief overview.

In the poetry wars you will be chosen to go up against someone (your level) and write a poem. The subject will be decided by me and my judges (more experienced poetry writers) when you are chosen to write a poem and are given a topic you have 24 hours to complete your poem and post in on the thread. If you do not complete your poem in the allotted amount of time, you will be disqualified and your opponent will win.

You may use past poetry, but you cannot use it more than once. My small group of judges (if not engaged in a battle themselves) and I will grade your poem, others may offer their opinions as well, we will choose the winner.

We will not be doing the Ultimate Poetry War.

Still not interested? Well don't sign up then! But those of you who would like to sign up, post interested, and what level you think you are:

Beginner: little or no experience with poetry

    Intermediate: some experience with poetry

Experienced: confident in your ability to write poetry

So sign up! The more people that sign up, the quicker we can get on to our first battle.

To those of you who are experienced:
If you are interested in helping me pick topics or judge, post official by your level.

Of course not, that's preposterous. It was an aforementioned idea in TWCafé, so I decided to act on it. It's not spam if it's not the same message, plus they were posted at two different times.

My attempt at a haiku

    Playing Kaw, Everday
    Makes my troubles go away
    Even more than drugs
    Like pot, crack and meth
    That is my first attempt
    At a lazy
    Haiku Poem
    Thank you for listening

Wait, what the hell is a haiku?

  8. Re: Poetry War 2

A haiku is a poem based on the syllables 5-7-5

    5
    7

  11. Might as well

I miss the days, the days of old
    With heroes brave and true
They'd fight the mighty dragons when they came out of the blue

I miss the days, the days of old
    When combat was an art
    Now just pull the trigger-
BLAM! There's a bullet through his heart

I miss the days, the days of old
    With horses, strong and sturdy
Today we use a car, to get us there in a polluting hurry

I miss the days, the days of old
    When honor still had meaning
We protected eachother, helped those in their our of need, instead of helping ourselves when there were prisoners we could have freed

But then is then, and now is now, do excuse me if I prefer Thee and Thou over Heyyy dood watchu doing.

  12. You didn't include your level.

  13. Intermediate

  14. I laughed,
    I lived,
    Now I cry.
The days without you all make life feel worthless.
He took you all away from me,
But I'm sure mother nature had a part in it too.
    My father,
    My mother,
    My brother.
    Gone,
And I will never see them again.

  15. Think about yourself:
    What do you care about?
    You care about yourself
    You are so self-centered
You might think you care about others
Think you care about their feelings
    Care about me
    But in the end
It all boils down to you
    Doesn't it?

    Think about others:
    What do they care about?
    They care about themselves
    They don't care about you
    They can pretend
    Just like you pretend
But they don't care about you
    Don't care about your feelings
    Care about me
    Because it's all about them
    Isn't it?

    Think about me:
    What do I care about?
    I care about you, right?
    I must, you think
    But your wrong
I'm just as self-centered as you
    I don't care about them
    Don't care about their feelings
    Care about you
    I can't because I'm just like you
    Aren't I?

Hey Feather! Thanks for putting this up again! I wanted to do it, but I can't seem to find a balance in my life that allows me to do everything I want to. Thus, I'm not always on here. (But I've been lurking for a while.)

  16. Lady! Thanks,I've been trying to rekindle the flame that's heat lead to different forms if literature in fan fic.

  17. I'm trying to become more active (I was never inactive, and don't you DARE say otherwise. ) in KaW.
