While I was going through college, probably a lot like most students, I didn't have much money. If you didn't have aid for it, you ate like a poor person, or to be more sensitive, you developed creative eating habits. =) But college eating was still no comparison to how we ate when I was 5 to 12 years old. My family was dirt poor. If it hadn't been for our Church owning a house on some property, we would have been on the street. We came up with creative eating habits, as I am calling it, and I wondered what others here have done. Here is a quick list of the stuff we ate: 1. Fried baloney triangles. A lot of mornings, my father would cut up baloney and we ate that for a meal. Interestingly, since then, I hate the stuff. 2. My personal favorite... Hot Dogs wrapped in a slice of bread. This is my favorite, not because of how strange it is but because I still use a slice of bread instead of a hot dog bun. My wife saw me do it one day, and she was beside herself. I explained to her that I prefer the slice of bread because the hot dog bun is to MUCH bread and is frequently a bad fit. My explanation didn't win her over. 3. Imitation hamburger helper. I imagine poor people with little cash for food use imitation lot's of stuff, but this is exceptional to me because as it is, Hamburger Helper was already very cheap. Our house was filled... well, certainly not filled... with other extremely cheap food items such as imitation mac n' cheese and top Roman but those three are the funniest I could think of. Looking forward to reading what "creative eating habits other players experienced.
With my budget, I just buy a ton of ramen. It's like 20 cents a meal, it comes with seasoning, and all you need is hot water and chop sticks. With coupons it's like 16 cents a pack if you buy the big box.
Ramen. Dollar stote chili. Cheese. Hot sauce. Perfection. Make a good living now and still eat ramen concoctions. Prison will do that to you
I like apples and peanut butter. On the go, or for a decent snack. If you pay the extra money for the bigger apples it actually be satisfying.
I bodybuild on a budget, college student. Lots of eggs lots if oats, ramen noodles and cheap meats lol its pretty bad but im pushing through it. The struggle is real.
Ramen is the way to go. It can be doctored up in a thousand ways for very very cheap. Add peas and carrots for $1.50, bake or grill chicken breasts for $5-$6 bucks. And you've got a nice little meal. I made a weeks worth of chicken and dumplings for $8. Chili is another thing that can be made for under $8. The trick is knowing how to cook.
Ramen, rice and beans, spam and cheese on bread, cereal and water(disgusting but edible), rice and egg, chopped hot dogs with egg, and the almighty garden hose for when we were thirsty. Definitely came a long way since then.
