Kingdoms at War - 03/04/2013 Update *NEW INFO*

  1. This Week's Updates
    --------------------------
    Opt-In System
We hope that everyone has found the new opt-in system useful. Based on reading the feedback both on here and via our feedback system, it seems to be a change you all like. We will continue using this system moving forward.

    No Match Scenarios
Based on the results of the poll, we will start implementing a No Match system. Based on last weeks' matchups, there were about 10% of matchups that we felt would fall under this category. For us to be sure, and for us to tune the numbers properly, we will be removing the maximum member cap this week.

NOTE: We will not have the no match system in place, but we will be running our no match algorithm in parallel to ensure that we have the proper results.

Red Paladin Equipment and Season 1
The last piece of the Red Paladin equipment will be released this week! After this has been released, it's onto Season 1 of Estoc Trials! We would ideally have the no match system working and in place, so tentatively, we will test no match next week, and have season 1 start the week after. Note that these are tentative dates.

    Estoc Trials FAQ
    --------------------------
Q: How does the Wave of Conflict (Opt-IN) spell work?
    * Players will have to cast the Opt-In (Wave of Conflict) BEFORE matchups, casting it after matchups does not work
    * FOR ADMINS, When you sign up for an Estoc Trial, we will inform you on the # of players who have opted in for that war
    * FOR ADMINS, If your clan members affect the qualified number of participants in any way (leaving the clan, casting Wave of Conflict etc), and that number exceeds or falls below the requirements for the event, the clan will be disqualified. It will be up to you to manage your members and ensure that your clan meets the size requirements at all times.

    Q: Matchups are not fair/balanced/equal!
A: We've made multiple steps in resolving this problem, and we feel that we are at almost the best matchup system possible given the contraints of what we have to work with (# of signups, variance in clans sizes)

Q: The lag is horrible and it is causing us to lose the war!
A: This is a complex issue, and hopefully this explanation will put to rest some of the questions that have been brought up. A common situation where a delay in processing actions happens when one player receives many incoming actions. The player that is receiving this action will most likely experience the "spinner" for several seconds when they try to do an action themselves. At the end of this, they will receive a notice that says that they were knocked out. This is a point of frustration for many as they feel that if the spinner had not come up, they would not be knocked out. While our servers may take a few seconds to resolve all of the actions (it can be easily over 20 at once), we do record when we receive each action and the action that was triggered first will receive the Knock Out. Chances are, if you had 9 incoming actions and you tried to attack, you chances of being the first action is ~10%. To reiterate, while it may take our servers some time to determine the results, the results are fair and the first action that was performed will go through. Now, we are doing what we can to reduce the amount of waiting time players experience, and have been upgrading our hardware to accommodate for the number of actions that occur during Estoc Trials.

Q: Will the war times change week to week?
A: We will continue to examine and improve the wartimes, offering a larger variety of times and size restrictions to best suit our players.

    Next Week?

  6. Re: Kingdoms at War - 03/04/2013 Update

No member cap? Where's the meme of the "Brace yourselves" guy and the text saying "LeaderBoard clans incoming"? someone better make that.

And like Val's wondering, extra mith?

  7. Re: Kingdoms at War - 03/04/2013 Update

Sounds great, I'm liking this new system. Creates more actives in war

  8. Re: Kingdoms at War - 03/04/2013 Update

Devs, just want to make sure that no upgrading after match up while allies purchase still in place. Thanks

  9. Re: Kingdoms at War - 03/04/2013 Update

Good job devs. Looks like you made a lot of progress since this first started.

  10. Re: Kingdoms at War - 03/04/2013 Update

    Let admins cast for members?

Make war less punishing on the losing team, the cost of losing turns many off trying more than once.

Maybe have cheaper war only pots, which is probably troublesome, or at least award losers some Mith return based on their performance in wars, but with penalty for losing of course.

Just don't make them lose everything, looking at 10-15bn gold per war. Pretty hefty for many.

  11. Re: Kingdoms at War - 03/04/2013 Update

System as it stands is so punishing many leechers, wait I meant players, cannot bear to lose another and try to leech on to a winning clan.

Winner takes all, losers loses everything system in place now deterring many from warring.

  12. Re: Kingdoms at War - 03/04/2013 Update

I'm interested in what you mentioned about the individual ASWs? Why not also add an extra one to those who would be just below the cut, and have them compete in their own rounds, for a less stellar reward? Like say, for instance, the reward in the full asw is a static bonus permanent item, the (technically-saying) Junior ASW could reward in nobility and extra mithril instead.

It wouldn't really hurt the revenue, since people in these wars, unless a huge matchup foul-up occurs, (which the no-matchup is supposed to address) end up crystal-blasting.

This next bit might not necessarily seem fair to people who would do all the opportunities for war, but realistically, most people aren't going to be able to do all 5 wars a week. If measurements are taken like I'm going to guess they will, it somewhat removes the point of being extremely competitive for those who can only roll out 1-2 wars a week.

Lastly, I've seen mentions of more potential war times... Maybe get those in some practical use before starting the season, so that one could find the remaining slots that work best? (I'm not talking about benefitting me with these time slots lol, but I have seen a lot of complaints from people regarding inconvenience of war times.)

That's my feedback. I'd love to see kaw_admin respond, but I also want to see what others think as well.

  15. Re: Kingdoms at War - 03/04/2013 Update

Hi KAW my app keep cutting me off to my homepage on iPhone during wars can u fix that thanks

  16. Re: Kingdoms at War - 03/04/2013 Update

How does removing the member cap limit help us in wars if we are still restricted by those who have estocs edge and cannot war still taking up clans war space? We only have limited slots and cannot war at max numbers while we have multi time zone clans. Reward loyalty to clans. You force people to ditch their edge and met wars to get into full clans or war with reduced numbers based on time zones.
Makes no difference with veil or opt in the same issues are still there the same problems and the same lack of reward for loyalty. Much better options available which you aren't allowing us to even explore those options

  17. Re: Kingdoms at War - 03/04/2013 Update

I agree with cheetahfury. I think the current punishment for losing EE war is too heavy. You lose your miths, xtals, 10-15B for pots and the edge. Miths should at least be reimburshed.

The matching system would be working better with more clans joining the war, creating more options to pair a clan with. The current severe punishment turns off beginner clans and small clans to have a shot at it, especially for first and second try.

Unless your server wouldnt be able to handle the load and create lags, I suggest we should think more on how to increase the number of clans joining the wars. With limited clans to match up, it'll be hard to create a fair match up for all. It will also be more fun to meet different clans in wars.

  18. Re: Kingdoms at War - 03/04/2013 Update

i agree with cheaterfury the current loser loses everything a bit harsh, for new people to try ee wars out more people and ckans better match ups at least give losers back thier mith

  19. Re: Kingdoms at War - 03/04/2013 Update

Unless ATA designed EE war for only clash of the big clans, more clans involved in wars would mean more xtals used and income for ATA.

Also, with more smaller clans joining the war, a small beginner clan would be against a similar strength opponent, and there'll be a winner. With a taste of victory, even if they lost the second round against a more organized clan, they will try to come up with a better strategy and be more organized with more actives, and try again.

To promote EE war, one suggestion is to reimbursh miths even to the losing sides. And also perhaps, give money reward for both losing and winning sides, like EB bonus, so they could replenish their used pots easier. And probably give a buffer edge, let say level 1/2 (half) with 5% or 10% bonus. Give this to the losing sides, even when they previously have 0 edge with only 1 week timer, also when edge lv1 people gets defeated.

  20. Re: Kingdoms at War - 03/04/2013 Update

But I meant, for the winner, they still get lv1 from 0. That lv half is only for the losing sides.
