Japan doesn't have a standing military like China does partly because they're not allowed because of ww2.

So modern Japan v modern China with no outside war assistance China would dominate Japan.

Depends, if the war becomes proxy. The U.S. And our Allies join in versus China. The possibility of Russia siding with China is minimal they would likely remain in isolation and side withe the Allies closer to victory. That being said in a conventional war Mano y Mano China would whoop Japan's ass. Although China's naval capabilities are weak, the Japanese military and naval capabilities were virtually destroyed after the U.S. victory in the pacific campaign WW2. China's military equipment is far superior, their standing army is much larger, their economy is much better, and to top it all off they have a billion people and are perhaps the biggest industrial powerhouse. In other words if that war were to happen RIP Japan.

 

The US spends more on their Services then the next 20 countries combined. As someone who studies economies and markets, China's economy is in rapid decline compared to the US's. Any war the US steps into will be won by the US.
Might i add that nobody will ever win a war on US soil as the gun to person ratio is 7:1. In other words, if you get past the military you're going to have to go through a population with enough guns to wipe out whatever your sending in.
Goodluck China and Russia. That is why any war from now on would result in everyone nuking the US.

 

Wrong, America isn't stepping into war with another country that has nukes and winning. Both countries are left destroyed.
