Is it ok? Completely stolen from a tv program made in my country that recently trended worldwide with #brickingitforcanada I present my new series of threads. They will ask if it is ok for a certain part of the human interaction with the world to take place. I invite people to ask me Is it ok? questions on my wall/pm and I will develop threads on the best topics. I will start with this very simple one; Is it ok to experiment on animals. Both for cosmetic and health products? One of my students recently gave me some insight. As a vegetarian, she said this "We should test on animals for drugs and stuff. We do not need animals for food or to test make-up. But if rats/mice/rabbits are used to test a new drug that could stop cancer then we have an obligation to test it to prolong the human race. We do more good than harm and making us healthier and happier is the best thing we can do for the planet" A very interesting viewpoint. What are your thoughts forums? I will remain as unbiased and as devil's advocatey as I can. Moody ️
It's not okay for an animal to be tested on for beauty products and that sorta crap but it's completely fine if they were experimenting drugs that could potentially cure diseases. Peoplez in dis werld is mean
@Jackson, So it's ok for these animals to develop rashes or other health issues putting them in pain because there is a chance it could stop runny noses?
Would you rather Humans have those rashes or animals? A variety of drugs are tested on monkeys, because they're closest to the human genome. The results from animal testing help push newer drugs onto the market and save lives. At the end of the day, we do what we have to survive. It may be ugly, but I rather it be a monkey than the human populace.
These drugs are to make the human race have a better life, not the monkeys lives. As such we should test it on ourselves, another species shouldn't pay the price for us to benefit.
We test on humans anyway after the animal stages. Standard clinical trial use healthy humans to see for adverse effects. Why do we need the animal testing at all?
Aye, we move to human testing only after a fairly positive animal testing phase. If 80% of the animals in the initial testing phase were dying from horrid side effects like carcinomas, it would never get approved for human testing. The approval for human testing happens only after the animal testing results are marginally safe. Which is why you don't see high risk new drugs being approved by the FDA, they don't usually clear the initial test phases.
But a risk nonetheless we could just pay handsomely for the risk and give people the choice rather than forcing other creatures to do things purely because we are more intelligent
Dear Moody, My name is Kernel Cornfetti.. And as you might have guessed from my name, I am corn.. But I am more than that.. I am a GMO corn.. They raised me in a lab like Wolverine from the X-Men and did things to me to give me super resilience and strength.. I am also tastier.. But don't worry, I still come out of your other end intact.. Please don't try to eat me again.. Anywhoo.. I feel sorry for those bunny rabbits and mice and stuff trying on wrinkle free lotions before people do.. I am SO against it.. Even though I am a little bit jealous of those Monkeys that went to space.. All I get to see are your intestines.. One day, they will modify me to have a camera in me so that you get a colonoscopy while you eat a cob of corn.. May be then I would be as cool as those monkeys.. Peace out.. Sincerely, Kernel Cornfetti
Yes. I would want things tested before being put in/on my body. I want to know the possible outcomes.
Why not? Tbh, instead of killing rats n stuff might as well put them to good use. That sounds nasty, but you have no idea how many are killed everyday lel.
GMOs are next Then maybe vaccines... Maybe ask if it's ok that Trump has gotten this far... Is it ok that women have spent years conforming to male political standards such as Hilary just for a "new" type of politics to gain momentum from another old white guy (Bernie)? Back on point! It seems most are against cosmetics on animals (a fair point...). But medically, can we learn enough from dead mice as we can from tested on humans?
Love the face transplant! My opinion is that if you're not sure it's safe for humans then you probably shouldn't even try it. I think the inventors should test stuff for us if they think their products a worth testing on animals. Some of the testing they do is really cruel. I mean, who can live with themselves after deliberately trying to kill a population of bunnies in order to determine the lethal dosage? Bunnies! Cute, fluffy, adorable little bunnies!
especially as LD50 has been all but discredited as a useful statistic, labs still do it generally due to laws and convention rather than for scientific enquiry. I would find it very interesting if pharmaceutical companies did start hiring humans as permanent Guinea pigs for all their potions. However, I sense ethical clearance would be harder to get...
That would undoubtedly place most of the burden of testing on the most poor and vulnerable people of our society, which is NOT OK.
Very fair point, what would your suggestion be señor? A jury duty system? With the right to abstain on certain grounds?
