Hey forumer's, I'm making this thread as an interest & promotion thread for all forms fighting arts. From boxing to mma to martial arts to street fighting to kungfu & other fight films/books/shows to weaponry, i hope we all can share some knowledge and discuss the old or new styles in the world today & in history & the benefits of these diciplines to society A true fighter, imo, doesn't just learn & fight but lives a lifestyle of dicipline that transcends the idea of just being sport to an artform and a lifelong mind, body & soul interest. I've personally studied boxing for 10+yrs(Euro & latin styles mostly) and taken a few months of kickboxing, capoiera & taikwondo. I'd like to expand more into wresting (ju-jitsu particularly), wu-shu, slat & kendo but the gyms available in my area are far & few for such styles atm unfortunately I'm partial too more balanced hard hitting styles of striking arts & the fast fluid movements of MA but believe a fighter needs more to call themselves complete. I train to find patience, peace & endurance in myself. I fight, not because someone makes me angry/sad or I think i'm right/wrong, but to defend myself & those i feel i have a duty to protect & to give myself better mental and physical endurance against anything life can throw my way. I try to promote healthy living through self-defense/fight training as much as i'm able without having to enforce my views upon people & I'm always happy to provide information & guidance to those who ask for it when i have the time. So to get things going here's a few topics to get started if ya'll need or feel free to choose another i haven't mentioned... -What you do you think makes a true fighter? -What style/styles do you do or are you interested in? -Who are your favourite fighters? (A few of my favourite fighters from history are Shane Mosley, Sergio Mora, Tommy Hearns, Huo Yuanjia, Bruce Lee, Ip Man & Chuck Norris) -Whats your fav film/show/book relating to fighting? (I love Kungfu & boxing films such as Legend of a Drunken Master, Ip Man, Fist of fury(the chinese connection), Battle of red cliff, 13 Assasins, Ong bak, The Hurricane & Rocky) -What are the driving forces that do/would make you want to fight & train? -What is the best fight you've seen & why? P.S. If you feel you want to talk about video game fights, as fun & interesting as I find them mostly to be, please refer to games that have more realistic fighting styles represented, thx all
This could be a really interesting thread to read. Don't have anything to type up atm but leaving a comment to bookmark for future reading
Yeah awesome, i had a few amatuer fights to test myself out but ended up going down the coaching path. i enjoyed am's but dont want the brain damage most pro's end up in boxing wit unfortunately. Knowing how is great but i don't use it seriously unless absolutely neccessary
I wrestled in high school. Always wanted to train in BJJ, kick boxing, and Muay Thai. I'm going to wait until after I'm out of college to start training. Mainly because both college and training are expensive and I have expenses that are more important than a gym ATM. Chuck lidell, Jon jones, Anderson silva, and johny hendricks are my favorite fighters.
Yeah kool, if you plan to go pro i think it's best to start training young as your body heals much better while still growing but as a personal interest you can take them up later and still gain great benefits. & yeah they are some great fighter's names there
