  1. Welcome one and all to my new ongoing story, "In Deepest Night". What is posted below is merely an epilogue of the tale that is yet to come, as the kingdom will need mighty heroes to hunt down this terrible beast and it's master. And to you most learn-Ed community of writers and readers, I have a request: Characters. Strong characters with backgrounds and motivations, flaws and traits along with all of the cool powerz. This is a high fantasy world, just so you know, and magic and gifts from the gods themselves are entirely possible, though not common. Please post them in the other thread for the story though please; I'll pick my favorite and then continue the story using them.

  2. In Deepest Night: Epilogue

It came at the darkest time of the night. A shadow that seemed to stretch out and slowly crawl up over the very walls of the castle, just another shadow in the darkness. Upon landing it seemed to congeal and reform before drifting forward unobserved. The plan was proceeding apace, and it seemed as if even the might castles defenses were no match for the shadow. As it moved on it came to a great stone tower which laid in the middle of the castle: the thing hissed and stretched out a part of it's incorporeal body. As this limb neared the wall a great crack appeared and a sinister smile could almost be seen on the shadow before it moved through and the clack closed noiselessly behind it. Not a trace of the things presence remained. Up along the winding staircase the shadow not quite climbed, but floated, until it at last came at last to the top. There a wooden door stood, but the shadow knew that not only a door prevented it's passage into the chamber beyond. Both magic and faith protected the door, but the shadow was stronger then either. A simple wave of an incorporeal limb was enough to banish the wards and move on. Therein the chamber it say it's target: an old man with a greying beard and a balding scalp lying sleeping in the bed. A small smile could again be seen on the shadows face before it floated over the mans face. Within moments it was over. The shadow stood and floated away from whence it had came. By the time the kings death was discovered it was already to late. The shadow had gone, taking with it nothing but a single life.
