I'm Ranting

Discussion in 'Ideas + Feature Requests' started by Seth, Jul 9, 2015.

  1. I consider myself to be a Christian. However, some values within my religion, I don't particularly agree with.

I was in the middle of service a couple weeks ago and my pastor decided to say in the middle of prayer "Lord, I am sorry that we as Christians have not spoken up to the law, and allowing..." I forget exactly what he said, but he continued to say sorry we didn't make the government say no to marriage equality.

Not I'm pretty offended. I'm not gay, but I don't think those who are gay should be punished.

The United States was founded on Christian values. As time moved on, a lot of people started to stray away from Christianity, and have moved to other things. This essentially turned society's views on government from a Christian outlook to a more diverse outlook.

With the more diverse outlook, people desired a separation from church and state. Eventually there was a thing passed that did just that.

WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG FOR MARRIAGE EQUALITY???

Denying gay marriage was a Christian thing. If the state and church are truly separate, then why did it take so long :(

    Idek

I know threads have been made about this. You don't have to reply. I'm just ranting.

  2. the united states was founded on enlightenment values. many of the founding fathers were deists, not christians. most notably thomas jefferson.

  3. oh. to answer your caps rage questions: the world is populated with angry, narrow minded, ignorant, stupid, and hateful people.

  4. I really do wish that more people are like you, at least your views seeing as I do not really know you, but thank you. I am gay, and to be honest I really do not care about the whole marrage thing because I get that people have views and religion and I respect that, I just get irritated when they cannot do the same for others. Anyways, thank you again ^~^ this just made my day.

  5. This

  6. It's the socially conservative sects of Christians who follow their religious beliefs when making laws that causes these problems.

  7. This is unfortunately true. Nice thread mate - I personally don't follow any religion anymore after an upbringing of the Christian faith.

However, regardless of religion or powerful entities in politics etc - love will always be love. If you find yourself in love with someone of the same gender or of the opposite gender then it should be your right to declare that love for them in front of you family/friends. This being cemented into law helps give powers to the couple.

    So basically... Support

  8. Much support, Hun.

  9.
  10. One thing I'd like to bring up OP, is the Greek philosopher, Pluto. He invented the plutocratic line of thought.

Pluto believed that democracy could never work. He looked around and he saw people who did not fully understand the politics around them. He thought it would be better if only the intelligentsia were in control, and were allowed to vote because of this.

I'm not encouraging plutocracy, but a democracy can only work efficiently when everyone is well-educated and well-informed. I think it says that somewhere in the USA's constitution.

With the partisanship of the media and with the slipping of the USA's education system, the efficiency of the democratic government is slipping... And is now bogged down by the uneducated and uninformed.

  11. The USA was NOT founded on christian values.

The Christian take over didn't happen until the Red Scare of the 1950's.

I like your post but I have to correct you on this aspect.

Christians really need to study US history because they are heavily misinformed and they heavily misinform.

  12. Christians took over around the 1830's actually, due to the temperance movement.

The temperance movement was basically a movement in which Christians joined together as a political entity to achieve Christian goals.

These are the guys that pushed for alcohol to be illegal, etc. They basically founded the conformist culture of America that people knew and fought against in the cultural revolution.

Edit: I may have the name for this wrong
