Have we reached our DOOM?

  1. Have we reached our
    ?

So, here’s a bit of a moral dilemma for me… The other day I read that Bethesda Studios (Skyrim / Fallout) is releasing a remake of DOOM this May, one of the first video games I really remember playing. I think it came out when I was in early high school and remember it being a ground breaking FPS (building off Wolfenstein) and controversial (pixelated blood). The entire computer lab during lunch would be filled with 15 year olds shooting each other and demons.

So when I saw that my favorite video game studio was involved in a remake of course I was intrigued. Then I saw the trailer, and some footage released at E3 last year. While the graphics were very impressive, I felt a bit disturbed by the content…. Finishing moves including stomping heads in, ripping off limbs and a chainsaw attack straight out of Scarface. I felt a bit… sickened.

Is this the next level of entertainment? Have we as a society been desensitized to the point where this is what it takes to raise the bar and be considered new content? Frankly if my kid was playing this I’d be a bit concerned. I’m sure this will be a ‘Rated M’ game but we all know how successful the ratings are with keeping teenagers away from certain games.

I’ve never been one to subscribe to the ‘video games make our kids violent’ theory and support free expression especially when it comes to art, but some part of me feels that this crosses a line. Or is this just an indication I’m growing old?

Here's a brief summary of the game's development through the years:

(I know…. You can’t help but smirk at that chainsaw action, but still….. it’s just….. wrong. LOL)

So there you have it KAWers. What do you think?

Remember, when the going gets rough, just IDDQD.
    Noobs be all:

PS. Developers please add a bloodlust mode, so there are blood splatters on my screen when I attack someone on the BL.

  2. Yeah. This game is awesome. I played it from the start back in the day and I'll buy it on ps4 the day it comes out. Can't wait.

  3. Game stop may 31st btw

  4. OMG you are OOOOOOLLLLLDDDDD!!! 

  5. God mode code

  6. I remember renting doom with my dad's blockbuster card in the early 90s.

Doom is the reason I hate sports video games with a passion. I purchased madden and doom originally with birthday money and returned madden after playing doom back in the day.

  7. Love the new content btw. I admit tldr. But if u like fps games, this one is a must.

  8. Seriiusly where have you been? Have you never played skyrim or fallout?

    Obvious troll is obvious..

  9. I hated that in 007 on 64 when u shot a bad guy in the foot, they'd choke at the neck.
I've been waiting for super accurate gore.... And this game will be one that I play over and over again.

  10. Oh man, if you think this is over the top you should check out how Mortal Kombat has evolved over the years.

  11. Seems like someone's a bit on the sensitive side of the fence eh?

    This is hilarious 

  12. Not trolling. Loved Skyrim & Fallout 3 (haven't played Fallout 4), but yes, a 2 second finishing move where you chainsaw some zombie in half with blood shooting everywhere, well, yeah, I think that might cross a line.

Mortal Kombat is another perfect example of what I'm talking about. What, are our grandkids going to watch snuff films for fun?

Maybe I am getting old..... lol.

  13. This game looks nice as hell. I'm down

  14. Sometimes I like to chainsaw vile beasts in a fit of gorey rampage and then I like to take it easy and play video gsmes.

  15. Seriously? The chainsaw is nothing new. Anyone that has played gears of War has seen it thousands of times

  16. I think Dead or Alive has gone extremely violent over the years..

  17. Gears of war came out like 15 years after doom.

  18. 2 posts = your 1,000 posts !!!!!!
