FanFic Etiquette

  1. So what with this inflow of new people into Fan Fiction, (Yes! :D ) I've seen a lot of you new peoples do things, not necessarily wrong, but different than what we usually do and some of us (not me) would probably explode with anger at you. Anyways, I'm gonna try to write this as well as I can and I hope it hasn't been done before. I'll edit on the computer if I miss something.

    0. FYI, most of the people in FanFic talk in The Writer's Cafe. We hang out there and it's kind of like our base of operations. Please post in there, I look forward to seeing you around.

    1. Arguably the most important, DO NOT POST ON THE DIRECT THREAD CONTAINING STORY OF A WRITER'S Usually a writer creates a separate thread called "(insert story name here) FeedBack" it's very annoying if somebody writes on your story thread when you've created a feedback one.

    2. This is for you writers, and a tip. Usually you should pre-write chapters of your story, so when you do catch Writer's Block, or just fall behind in writing, you can post chapters. Also, the average I write ahead is 2-3 chapters. For more tips, see the stickied thread in FF.

    3. If you write poems and the such, create one thread that contains all of your work. I've seen multiple people make 4-5 separate threads for each of their poems. It's better to be more organized when you post, so make a single thread, not 10.

    4. Please, no roleplays. I WAS a roleplayer myself, but if you want to roleplay, join a clan or something, don't use FF. (And yes, Eagle. There are fewer clans out there that RP, but it's Kingdoms at War, not Kingdoms at Warplay.)

    5. Read the stickied threads by iPimella. They help with writing a lot. And making character bios. You may think you know everything, but just try it.

    6. Criticism. Give it and be grateful you have it. Don't be afraid to point out bad grammar and the such, but don't write their story for them. Don't be mad because someone criticized your work, even if it was pretty harsh. Be grateful you even got feedback. The most frustrating things for writers are: a. No feedback at all, and b. "Good story. Me want more. Give more. MOAR!"

    7. Write for yourself. If you aren't getting feedback, just bump the feedback thread and add another chapter. Eventually someone will read it and someone will comment, and if no one does, feel proud that you had the confidence to post your story!

    8. If you read a story, leave feedback. It's very annoying when you know for a fact at least 20 people have read your story, yet only one or two people left feedback. Makes you feel like you'e worthless.

    9. Once again, leave feedback. I can not stress this enough. I've seen many people only post on their own stories and it is very, very annoying.

    10. Make sure you have great grammar. I understand excuses, but *ahem* some of us Candi do not.

    11. If you need any help at all (About writing and shyness, not "HIRE ME!) with just about anything, contact me, or ask for it in The Writer's Cafe. I will do my best to help.

    12. Don't you dare use Fan Fiction as a testing ground for BBcodes. Use trial and error. Are you seriously so dumb as to think, "Oh, I fail at BB. I'll just go to Fan Fiction."
I am growing for that specific reason. To farm idiots who think that's all Fan Fic is worth. So don't. Nor should you bump old threads with your tests. And don't make new threads. I will put you on my list of people to farm. I would sic clan mates on you, but that would be noobish.

    13. Before posting a story, put a part of it in, "The Writer's Cafe" thread. We can help you find out what you need help in. A much less harsh way, Candi. Most people don't respond well to abrasiveness.

    14. Please, don't bump old threads unless they are still active, which most are not. Example, (SomeStoryFrom2011) "It was great!" '2 hours ago' That one is a little extreme, but you get my point.

Any suggestions or questions are welcomed. <3

  2. Amen. I hope more people read this

  3. Edit 4. If you want to role play, get the hell out of KaW. Go to PiMD, and never return.

  4. Very nice, I agree with all, also next time add something about people using correct grammar when they write. It annoys me, when I read a story and all the Is are lowercase, as so i.

  5. Red, that's what feedback threads are for :p

And cheese, that may be too harsh, but next time I'm on my computer I'll make it somewhat more negative.

  6. Bump because it's a little far down and a crime was just committed, which gives me an idea for a rule or whatever these are called.

    Guidelines?

  7. Sounds 'bout right.

Is forum being all pissy and slow tonight?

  8. How about commandments?

  9. Hahaha commandments sound amazing!!! I love you haha! :D

  10. I don't accept "love", checks only.

    JK :)

  11. Sorry but I must bump. It was getting down there.

Sorry I haven't been able to update it cause I haven't gotten in my computer for awhile

  12. Very much agreed with. 

  13. Okay, you need to add this.

If you know your grammar sucks, why the hell would you post a story, and then use the whole "I'm only x I can't help it I know my grammar sux" excuse. Dammit, I've seen it before! You're a dumbass! Why are you even posting a story?!

  14. Thanks for the advice, I'll keep it in mind. Probably should request that the devs sticky this, once its edited the last time.
