Jon Stewart tunneled from his farm to Stephen Colbert's desk where he encouraged the media to get over its breakup with President Trump on The Late Show Monday. Stewart spoke about the President's contentious relationship with the press, from attacks on specific news outlets like CNN and Buzzfeed, to outright lying. "Nobody says 'believe me' unless they are lying," Stewart said. But Stewart also urged the media stop hanging on Trump's every falsehood and attack, and insisted it was time for the press to "get its groove back." "Let's face facts," said Stewart to the media, at large. "You kind of let yourself go a little bit these past few years, put on a few pundits, obsessing 24 hours a day, seven days a week, about this one guy: 'What's Donnie up to? Did he say anything about us? You think he's gonna come on our show?'" Stewart reminded the media that it may hurt to see their ex "swiping far right" but that doesn't mean the breakup isn't a chance for self-reflection and improvement. "Take up a hobby," Stewart suggested. "I recommend journalism!" When Colbert asked Stewart if he truly believed the media would take this opportunity to reflect and get better at their jobs, the former Daily Show host cracked: "I really do – believe me."
I do agree that we (as consumers of media) should also support/encourage more topical analysis and insight (eg. Is the infrastructure spending increase proportion to defense increase in relation to the american's priorities) rather than just focusing on the one guy.
He is pulling everyone's chains. Let's face it. He will spin what he wants. His does he was basically him playing nice because he realized he needs congress. His closest advisors are pure racists and are pushing a white 'me first' agenda. His economics are based on ripping off the other guy. Every time he takes companies to court it's only because he wants to pay less for the work done. This rips off the American people. He is trying to run the country the same way. He is pushing an agenda that removes safe guards put in place that lead to the 2008 market crash. Again, hurting people. He is stripping environmental protections that are in place to make sure our children have a future. His ties to Russia are worrisome. He will not release his taxes cause he will be exposed as a fraud. He degrades women and has his whole life. Democrats messed up so Donald is the guy. People need to hold him accountable which means the media needs to do a better job of not attacking him all the time but running and reporting the the costs of his policies. What are the collateral effects of the immigration policy and how those policies are allowing people to think it's okay to express their own bigoted and racist thoughts. Donald represents a mirror on what's wrong in America. Time to look in it and make changes.
