Hi! Right now, I'll tell you this: ONLY POST FEEDBACK IN THE FEEDBACK-THREAD. This is a new story I'm writing. It's a dark/fantasy/vampire-story. It takes place at a music camp. Sophie's roommate leaves the camp for personal reasons and she gets a new roommate. A strange roommate... If that's not enough, there's a boy as well. Christian Stokes. What dark secrets do some people keep? And what will they do for them to remain a secret? This story is inspired by a music camp I went to this summer. Well, minus the vampire and some other names. Even though I'm the main character, Price is not my last name and I don't live in York. That are some things I've changed, along with some other things. This story is dedicated to Christian (KaW name: Akatsuke). He is a really nice guy and he really helped with the story I hope that you like the story and enjoy Hugs, Sophie.
Chapter 1. Music camp. Sophie's POV. "Sophie, baby! Do you have everything with you?" Mom shouted from the kitchen. "Yes, I do, mom. But can you help me down with the suitcase? It weighs a goddamn ton." I shouted back, struggling to move the extremely heavy suitcase. "Language, Sophie! And I'll get Dad, wait a minute." Mom replied, her voice harsh. I rolled my eyes. I'm 17, can't I swear a bit if I want to? It adds emotion. And it isn't like I said something mean to anyone. Except for the suitcase, but it doesn't count. Only after I heard Dad's footsteps in the staircase, did I realize that my heart was beating really fast. Why was I so nervous? Well, it's the first time I'm staying away from home for a week. Not a five-day work week, but a full seven-day week. It wasn't a big deal. It shouldn't be a big deal. It was going to be fun. Music camp, it sounded fun enough. Maybe it was the fact that Miriam, Alex and I was driving there by ourselves. In Alex's car. Stupid 19-year old. I wasn't going to get a car until my 18th birthday, which was in another 4 months. Dad cleared his throat, disrupting my thoughts. "You ordered someone to carry your luggage?" He said sarcastically. "Yes, Dad. Very funny. Just carry the suitcase down the stairs. I can take it from there." I said and giggled a bit. As I walked out of my room, I stopped to kiss him on the cheek. No matter how annoying he is, I love him. He's my dad, after all. I hopped down the stairs, waking up my cat in the process. He meowed and walked over to me. He rubbed himself against my legs. I laughed and bent down to pet him. "Hello, my little cutie baby. How is it with my little Chintendo today?" I said in a silly, baby voice. Yes, his name is Chintendo. We named him that after we found him abandoned in a Chintendo Vii-box. I hate the people that left him there, they didn't even put him in a genuine Wii-box. Chintendo was a cute little thing, too. His jet black fur glistened in the sunlight and his greenish-yellow eyes had a mysterious depth in them. And he's just two years old, according to our vet. That means he was barely one when he was abandoned. Stupid people that abandon animals. I shook off those thoughts and continued to cuddle with him. He purred. "Move, Sophie! You're in the way!" Dad shouted from atop the stairs. I picked up Chintendo and walked over to the kitchen, where Mom was wiping the benches. She did that when she was nervous. Her short, brownish-red hair was stuck to her forehead and her ice blue eyes were the personification of nervousness. "Mom, stop being nervous. I'll call every day and fill you in. Besides, Miriam will be with me. Alex too." I said and put Chintendo down. "I'm... I'm not nervous." Mom said shakily. "Your body language and your eyes tell a different story, Mom." She narrowed her eyes playfully, then she sighed. "I'm just a chicken-mom. I know you'll be just fine. Call it mother's intuition, but I have a bad feeling about this." Mom said, not joking one bit. "Mom... Don't worry. I'll be fine. I'm more worried about you. What it you fall when you and Dad go hiking?" I said, smoothly changing the subject. "I won't!" Mom said, giggling a bit. "If you say so..." Mom was just about to say something, when Dad came into the kitchen. "Your luggage has been carried, my lady." He said and bowed a little. I playfully punched him and I went to put on my shoes. Just I was about to put on my hoodie, I heard someone honk in front of the house. Alex. I quickly put on my hoodie, kissed Mom and Dad goodbye, grabbed my suitcase and walked out the door. Sure enough, there was Alex and Miriam in his red Volvo V60. I walked over to the trunk and stuffed my suitcase in there, then I hopped in the backseat. Miriam was already on the other side of the backseat. She smiled at me. "Hi, Alex!" I said as I fastened my seatbelt. "Hi, Sophie! How much did you bring?" He said and looked up from the GPS. I looked down at my hands and blushed. My suitcase was by far the biggest of the three. "Not that much." I said, giggling a bit. Both Alex and Miriam began to laugh. They knew my tendency to overpack. "Let's just leave, already." I said, faking annoyance in my voice. "Okay, then it's off to Smithsee!" Alex said, started the engine and began to drive. "Smithsee?" Miriam said, "That's a weird name." "Apparantly it comes from all the blacksmiths that lived in there many years ago." I said, proud of Googling it before. "But why Smithsee?" She said. "They couldn't very well name it 'Blacksmith Village', could they?" I said, chuckling a bit. Miriam and I giggled while Alex just rolled his eyes at us. "Take a left in 500 meters." The mechanical GPS-voice said. "Do you really need to have that thing on the entire trip?" Miriam said, slightly annoyed. "Do you want to get lost?" Alex said. "You can get lost..." She muttered. "What did you say?" Alex yelled, barely containing his laughter. They continued to "argue" as I just smiled. This would be a fun car trip. When we arrived at the school, it wasn't what I'd expected. It was better. It looked like a beautiful castle, minus the towers, the moat and it wasn't made of stone... Maybe not exactly like a castle, but that was the first word that popped into my head. I could live here for a week. Yeah, I could do that. "This looks pretty sweet!" I said and smiled. "You got that right!" Miriam said and pulled a hand through her brown hair. "Okay, get out of the car. We need to go get our room keys." Alex said and parked the car. We got out of the car and walked over to a small house just on the other side of the small road. It said "Main office" on the door. I think we were at the right place. We opened the door and a man wearing a white tank top and military pants greeted us with a smile. "Hi! I'm Andy. Are you here for the UYM-camp? If so, follow me. I'm in charge for that camp." He said and smiled even bigger. "Yes, I'm Alex Newman, this is Miriam Newport and that is Sophie Price." Alex said, pointing at himself, Miriam and me. "Okay, let's just find you in the list..." Andy said and took out a piece of paper. "Ah, there you are! Miriam and Sophie, you share a room, as requested. Alex, you have room 216 and your roommate is Henry. He hasn't arrived yet. Here are your keys. Put your luggage in the room and make yourself at home. We'll meet in the gym for an assembly at 2. Here's the directions." Andy said, gave each of us a keycard and described the way to our rooms and the gym. We thanked him and got our luggage from Alex's car. After a bit of searching and frustration, we found our rooms. Miriam's and my room was on the first floor, while Alex's was on the second floor. He'd groaned a bit when he'd realized it. Miriam and I just laughed. Past a few rooms down the hallway was our room. 106. I stuck in my keycard. Beep. The lock clicked and I opened the door. I hurried inside and threw my incredibly heavy suitcase on the "real" bed. "I call dibs on this bed!" I shouted. "Not fair! I'm older than you!" She shouted back. "Exactly, that's why I need it. My back needs softness and care, which only a real bed can give." She glared at me and reluctantly put her stuff on the extra bed. "It's too soft!" She complained. I pushed my hand down on the matress. It didn't feel vert soft. "That's not soft, it feels hard to me." I said. She just sighed and began to unpack. So did I. After 15 minutes, the room was personalized. My bed had sheets with a flower print on it, while Miriam's bed had a "Phantom of the Opera" print on it. Our clothes were in the wardrobe and our toiletries were in the bathroom. The room wasn't very big. It consisted of a bathroom with a shower curtain in it and the other room was a bedroom/hallway-thing. So, when you walked into the room, the first thing you saw was Miriam's bed. Miriam checked her phone. "I'm just going to the bathroom for a sec." I said. Miriam nodded absently. I walked into the bathroom and locked the door behind me. I stood in front of the mirror. My long, dark blonde hair was in a sloppy ponytail and my ice blue eyes were tired. Maybe I should have my hair down. Mom always says that it's prettier that way. Gently, I took the hair ribbon from my hair. I shook my hair around a bit. Okay, it looked better, I couldn't deny it. I put on some lip balm and walked out of the bathroom. I checked my phone. 13.50. "We should probably go to the gym." I said. "Okay, but do we need to take our flutes with us?" Miriam said. "I don't think so. First everyone will introduce themselves, then it's lunch. After that it's probably music time." I said and smiled. I'd memorized the schedule before we'd left. She grabbed her phone and keycard, so did I, then we left. We found the gym quite easily. It was just across the courtyard. Yes, this place had a freaking courtyard! Alex was already standing outside of the gym, talking to a man. The man was probably one of the teachers. Both Alex and the man smiled at us. "Hi, Sophie and Miriam! This is Nick, the conductor. He's also responsible for brass instruments." Alex said. "Hello! As Alex said, I'm Nick. That's short for Nicholas." Nick said and extended his hand. Both Miriam and I shook it, politely stating our names as we did. Nick checked his watch. "Oh! I need to go inside, we begin in 5 minutes. Would you be so kind and help me? The others will probably be here in a few minutes." Nick said. We nodded and walked into the gym. We put up chairs, music stands and moved around some sports equipment that was lying around. After a minute, some more people arrived and helped us put everything in order. Nick told us which sections were for which instruments and after another 5 minutes, all of the chairs were taken. Everyone was chatting with each other. Nick cleared his throat and everyone went silent. "Hi! My name's Nicholas, but call me Nick. I'm going to be your conductor for this week and the leader for the brass instruments. The leader for the woodwinds will come a bit later. His name is Claus. I know, someone is going to make a Santa joke. Just don't do it, or I just might fill up your instrument with soap." He said and winked at us. Everyone laughed a bit. "So, during these 25 minutes, I'll call out every name on my list. When you hear your name stand up and wave to the others. Okay?" He said. Everyone nodded and some looked uncomfortable. They were probably shy. "Okay. Drew Anderton?" He began. I zoned out. All I needed to do was listen when he begisn to say last names that begin with P. Wonder if there are any nice guys here? There probably is, but nothing will happen between us. Why? I'm just not into the whole dating-thing. Most guys just dump their girlfriend after one week anyway. So why put myself through that pain? Having guy-friends was better, because then there's no awkwardness. Okay, maybe a little, but that doesn't matter. "Sophie Price?" Nick said. I stood up and waved at everyone. They smiled at me, then I sat down again, almost back into my own thoughts. Almost totally zoned out, one name broke through my thoughts. "Christian Stokes?"
Hi! I've got a LONG chapter for you today, so I hope you like it Oh, and this story is on Wattpad My username is: OkamiAmaterasu If you were wondering This was a very emotional chapter for me to write, but I hope that you like it Hugs, Sophie <3
Chapter 2. Death in the family. Sophie’s POV. I don’t know why his name stood out to me. It’s not like I’ve ever heard the name before. I don’t even know anyone named Christian! Yet, his name stood out. I looked at him. I lost my breath. He was the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen. His black hair was styled in an emo-style, but not really. More like the hairstyles in Japanese manga. He had the darkest eyes I’ve ever seen, like the night sky. His skin was very pale, but he didn’t look sick. He simply looked… Perfect. Catching myself staring, I averted my gaze. I hoped he hadn’t seen me. I felt my cheeks redden. ****. Quickly, I flung my hands up to my face to cover my cheeks. Why did I have to blush easily? I peeked at him. He sat down and he didn’t seem to have noticed me. Relieved, I put my hands down and turned to face Nick. “Okay, now that everyone has been confirmed to be here, you can leave. It’s lunch now. Be back here, with instruments, at half past 3.” Nick said and smiled. I almost ran out of the gym, not waiting for Miriam or Alex. Why was I so attracted towards this guy? Christian…Just to think of him made my heart pound. I took a deep breath. Pull it together, Sophie. Miriam came up behind me and gave me a questioning glance. “I’ll tell you later.” I whispered and began to follow the others. She gave me a weird look, but she followed me. When we arrived at the cafeteria, we had to stand in line for a minute or so. Then we could finally eat. Tacos… So delicious… I put some meat on my plate, along with a tortilla, some veggies and a lot of nachos. Soon, I realized that I’d missed the drinks. I hurried over to the drink station and grabbed some milk. Alex, Miriam, some other guy and I sat down at a table. “Hi! Who are you?” I said to the new guy. “I’m Henry, Alex’s roommate. You must be Sophie and you must be Miriam.” He said and pointed at me and Miriam. “How did you know?” I said. “Alex told me.” Henry said and nodded towards Alex. “Oh, okay.” I said and began to eat. There was an awkward silence that hung in the air while we were eating. It made me feel uncomfortable, but I ignored it. After eating for 5 minutes, I realized why I always have my hair in a ponytail. My hair always gets in my face. Annoying. Anyway, I finished a bit earlier than the others, so I decided to look around the cafeteria. Christian wasn’t there. My heart sunk a bit, even though it was illogical for me to react like that. Soon, we were finished eating and we put away our plates and eating utensils. Miriam and I hurried to our room and took our instruments. “It’s 5 minutes until we begin! Hurry up!” I shouted, feeling like the white rabbit from “Alice in Wonderland.” “Don’t worry, Sophie.” Miriam shouted back. We made it to the gym in time. When I came in through the door, I saw Christian. He was playing something on a saxophone. Ohh… How “saxy” he looked. My cheeks began to redden, so I looked away and began to unpack. Distracted by not trying to think of Christian, I found myself cleaning my flute instead of assembling it. I laughed a nervous laugh and tried not to blush, which I failed miserably at. I could hear Miriam giggle. Uncomfortable and angry, I glared at her and went back to assembling the flute. A few seconds later, I was done. Making sure it was tuned to perfection, I turned to Nick. He was holding some papers in his hand. Perhaps it was sheet music? He cleared his throat and smiled at us. “Hello! Here, I have some sheet music for you. We will be playing…” He began. “Sorry that I’m late, but my car broke down.” A cold voice said. I turned around. In the door opening was a beautiful girl. She had long, curly, dark, bright red hair and her eyes were a dark, golden-green. Her skin was pale and she was about my height. “Hello, Thana. Please, sit down and unpack. There’s a free seat next to Sophie here.” He said and pointed at me. I tried to shrink as she sat down next to me. Not wanting to look at her and risk getting a “Creep”-stamp, I looked at the girl to my right instead. She had brown, very wavy hair and dark blue eyes. Her skin was slightly tan, more tan than I would ever be. “Hi, what’s your name? I’m Sophie. Sophie Price.” I whispered to her. Her eyes widened a bit in surprise. She probably wasn’t expecting me to talk to her. “I’m Flora. Flora Bane. Want to play cards later? One of my friends has a deck of cards.” She whispered back. I nodded and smiled at her. She smiled awkwardly back at me. I must seem really weird, but I was connecting, just like Miriam wanted. Even though I’m not the most social person in the world. “Okay, everyone! The music we are going to play this year has a theme: Movies and dance!” Nick said. Everyone was silent. “I was expecting some kind of reaction, but seems like I got a calm group. That’s fine, just let your passion burn through your instruments. Figuratively speaking, of course. Here’s the sheet music. Don’t write on them. They’re originals. You’ll have to assign one in your section to go copy them in the Main Office. Okay?” He said. Everyone nodded. I looked through the sheet music. John Williams trilogy? Libertango? Lyric Waltz? Love theme from “The Godfather”? This would be an awesome camp, since we had awesome music. “Let’s all take an F now.” Nick said and raised his hands. 3 hours and a coffee break later, we were finished. I’d had a great time. It was really fun playing and Nick was really charismatic. The sun was setting and combined with the re and orange leaves on the trees in the courtyard, it looked really beautiful. As I walked across the courtyard, I saw Christian. He was walking with another boy, who I think played the trumpet, and some girls were following them. My heart started to ache. Of course girls would follow him around. I looked at him again. The girls had scattered and were heading to their rooms. Christian’s friend nodded in my direction and he glanced towards me. He tensed and took a step towards me. His friend grabbed his arm, giving him a mysterious look. Thana walked up to him, looking really angry. I took a step towards him, not really knowing why. He tensed up a lot. Was he feeling bad? “Are you all right?” I shouted, sounding worried. Thana grabbed him and pulled him into a hallway. What just happened? Someone walked up behind me. “Were we going to play cards?” Flora said. I turned around to face her. Miriam and three other girls were standing next to her. “Sure. Miriam, you in?” I said. “Of course. Nothing beats playing cards on a wonderful autumn evening.” Miriam said and smiled. We walked over to a table in the middle of the courtyard and sat down. I looked at the other three girls. “Who are you? I’m Sophie and this is Miriam” I said and pointed at Miriam. “I’m Linda.” A girl with short, brown hair said. “And I’m Florette.” A girl with long, blonde hair in a ponytail said. “Yeah, I’m Sophia.” A girl with the same hair as the last one said. This little group of ours was very nice, everyone was comfortable with each other. “Okay, what game are we going to play? Hearts? Skitgubbe?” Flora said and smiled. “What’s ‘Skitgubbe’?” Linda said. “It’s a Swedish card game. It’s very fun, actually. Here, let me explain the rules…” Flora said and laughed. We played cards until a few minutes before dinner. We had a wonderful time and everyone were friends just a few minutes in. I checked my watch. “Guys, dinner starts in five minutes.” I said. “Okay, then let’s go leave our instruments in our rooms and meet up at dinner.” Miriam said. Everyone nodded and headed up to their rooms. My stomach growled. I hadn’t realized how hungry I was. Miriam had already opened the door to our room when I arrived a few seconds later. I put my flute down on my bed and waited for Miriam before I left. “They were nice, weren’t they?” I said, smiling. “Yes, they were. Great that we made some friends.” Miriam said and smiled, “Let’s leave now, we don’t want to be late.” I laughed and walked out of the room, Miriam not far after me. As we walked to the cafeteria, we were silent. I could almost feel that something was wrong with Miriam, but I tried to ignore it. If she wanted me to know, she’d tell me. We stood in line, waiting to get our food, when I felt someone standing behind me. I glanced back over my shoulder. It was Christian. I quickly stared at a tray filled with plates. My heart raced. Really, why was I reacting like this? He was just a guy. An amazing guy… I shook off those thoughts. I haven’t even talked to him. Well, I asked if he was okay, but that doesn’t count since he didn’t respond. I just took some food, rice and pork chops, and sat down with the girls from before. Alex sat with a big gang of people. “Miriam, I think that Alex dumped us.” I said and giggled. She made horrified expression, then she began to laugh. The other girls stared at us. I quickly explained who Alex was and they began to laugh too. While we ate, we talked about a lot. One subject I avoided though was if there were any cute guys at the camp. I wasn’t ready to talk about my weird feelings for Christian. We finished eating after about 10 minutes. “The food’s pretty nice here.” I said, smiling. “Yes, I agree.” Flora said. We walked back to our rooms and said “good night” to each other. They were really nice. Miriam opened the door and threw herself on her bed. I locked the door and followed her lead. “So… Do you want to watch a movie?” I said. “What movies do you have?” Miriam said, starting to smile. “The holiday, the mummy, Twilight…” I began. “Twilight! Can we see it?” She said, smiling. I smiled and nodded. Almost as gracefully as a cat, I stretched and grabbed my iPad. Miriam’s eyes widened. “You have an iPad? And an iPod?” She exclaimed. “Yes… Okay, let’s just watch the movie.” I said and sighed. We changed into our pajamas and began to watch the movie. Watch and watch… We didn’t really pay attention to the movie, instead we talked. For almost 2 hours straight, we just talked. It’s one of my favorite memories. When we finished watching the movie, it was about eleven pm. I yawned. “Have you ever noticed that in movies and books, people don’t poo? Or pee for that matter.” I said. Miriam started laughing. “That’s one of the things I like about you, you are straight-forward about everything and you are yourself. You don’t let anyone get to you. You’re one of the bravest people I know.” She said, very serious. “Thank you. You’re the first person to call me brave.” I said, very moved by her words. “But you are brave.” She simply said. We brushed our teeth and went to sleep. I was just starting to drift away into sleep, when I heard Miriam’s phone ringing. “Under the sea” blasted in our little room. Then it stopped, I assumed she’d answered. I heard a muffled voice and then… crying. I opened my eyes and looked at Miriam. Her bluish-hazel eyes were filled with tears. Instantly, I jumped out of my bed and sat down next to her. “What happened?” I said, feeling very concerned. “My… My grandfather passed away.” She sobbed. I put my arms around her. “I want to go home, but I don’t want to leave you here alone.” She said, sniveling and sobbing. “Don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine. If you don’t want to be here, I understand. I don’t want to be the reason you stay and are miserable.” I said honestly. Of course I’d miss her, but I couldn’t make her be miserable. I wasn’t that selfish. “Really?” She said in a weak voice. I just nodded and I started to feel tears falling down my face. “Try to get some sleep and we’ll tell Nick that you’re leaving tomorrow. Okay?” I said. She nodded. I hopped back into my own bed and tried to sleep. It didn’t work.
