"So... What's the Creator about again?"

"It's a change, Jason, a revolution in technology - a program that links to your brain."

"So, Mr. Torsen, are you ready?"

It was the first day of the Experiment, to finally test the Creator, a way to create worlds... Supposedly.

    "Yeah."

    "Let us begin."

Jason lay down in the Creator, which looked like a glorified tanning booth with no cover. As he made contact with it, thousands of points on it lit up.

He'd been a normal man just a few days before, but then Dr. Helmin had come and introduced him to the Creator program. Now, he was part of the test to create new lives, to go deeper into the human psyche than ever before.

Jason lay down in the Creator, fitting the human-shaped mold comfortably and lighting up more points.

    "Are you ready?"

    "Yes, sir."

"Let us begin. We already have a small area programmed in by default, let's see if you can interact with it."

Jason awoke in a crowded marketplace, standing up and fully clothed, a grey suit and a matching red tie along with slacks. A mob of equally business-looking people shuffled past him as "time" progressed.

Suddenly, a billboard over the Times Square-esque scene flickered and Dr. Helmin's face appeared.

    "Jason. How is it?"

-From the screens positioned in a circle around the observation deck, the Doctor saw code scrolling by, and the computer singled out Jason's entity.

E.JasTor.say: ("It's like a dream, but I can control it! This is so cool!")

He typed, //Say: This is not the purpose of the test. Try making something.-

Jason focused on making a cube. Then his mind wandered and he decided to make a street, as the Times Square was the only area, the rest being suspended in emptiness.

In his mind, Jason thought he could feel code running through, and to his enjoyment, a street exactly like he'd imagined materialized, some parts dissolving in, others unfolding like paper and being painted in as they went. He also saw some people generating, little clouds of numbers collecting to become "sentient" beings.

The Billboard spoke again, "Good! This is progressing much better than we'd expected! Feel free to manipulate it some more, I'll leave Jessica here to - Wait. Something's not right!"

    "Sir, what're you talking about?"-

Thousands of lines of code went by, just like normal, but one message repeated after most actions:

    ERROR: OVERFLOW-

From Jason's perspective, a wave of white was eating up the sky, pixel by pixel, and soon the square was devoured, and Jason say up sweating.

"It's alright, Jason. Just a glitch. I forgot to tell you the system had some issues with..." He frowned disappointedly, "emotions."

"Ok, Jason. Our engineers have changed the Creator's protocols a bit, it should work with emotions now. Just like before, just lay down in the Creator when you're ready."

Jason found himself floating in emptiness, surrounded by white.
In his mind, a voice echoed, clear yet somewhat distant.

"Just to let you know, we removed the default area. It's code was corrupted when you left the Creator."

Jason created a city, not like New York or Chicago, but one of his own imagination. Endless streets lined with buildings of all kinds simply raised themselves from nowhere. A pair of suns dissolved into the sky, which was slowly filling up with blue pixels. Millions of people appeared from thin air, going about their business, while vehicles of all types warped into the streets.

    "Any issues yet, Dr. Helmin?"

"No, Jason. Oh, I almost forgot."

Jason thought he saw the corner of a nearby building flicker before returning to its location.

"While you're in the Creator, your body is in a catatonic state, consuming as little food and energy as possible. You won't have to worry about hunger during the experiment."

    "Good to know."

Jason spent the day going to the different shops, communicating with the virtual citizens, and even with doubts, created new laws of physics. After walking up a building with a football-sized croissant, Dr. Helmin called him.

"It's been one hour. Do you want to continue? We don't know what effects extended use will have."

Jason thought, and decided, "Yeah, I'm done."

"Ok, I'm shutting down the program now."

Jason heard nothing after that. The program didn't stop.

    "Dr. Helmin?"

But Dr. Helmin said nothing. All lines from the code scrolling down had stopped, and only one line remained.

-ERROR: I don't want to shut down-

Jason stood on top of the skyscraper he'd walked up, waiting for a sign. He waited five, ten minutes, and heard nothing but his own breathing and the virtual sounds from below.

"J-j-jaaaaaasoooooon...." A whisper pierced his brain like a dagger, and suddenly it felt like someone had blown a hole in his head. He collapsed.

Looking up, blinded by sheer pain, he saw a rippling figure standing above him.

    "Come on, let's maaaaaaaake some-some-some-thiiiiiiing...."

Jason scooted backwards towards the edge of the building, and jumped while creating a fireman team below.

    "NO."

An ice cold invisible hand wrapped around his neck and threw him back. The figure had eyes now, two horrifying red spheres which hissed like steam pipes.

Dr. Helmin pushed the shut-down switch, and the monitors and lights all went down. Even the lights on the Creator went dark. He waited for Jason to wake up, when he suddenly noticed one tiny screen, which blinked a message -

    F00led U - HaHaHaHa

  3. Five minutes later, the Creator's signs returned to normal. Dr. Helmin was calm now, but still very concerned.
    ----
In the two virtual months within the Creator, Jason had met himself. Or, at least his mind's representation of himself. The figure had quickly gained a shape, a metal man made of gears and plates, brass and with random letters engraved throughout.

"You will not make it out of this Machine alive," the metal man rasped, digital smoke leaking from its mouth. This was his fear talking now, the side that tried to kill him before.

    "Buzz off."

"And why are you so..." The metal man's face was flat, "Scared?"

"Because I don't want to die."

And why not?" The Creator's head cocked sideways a little.

    "Because then I'll end."

The Creator's face shifted to a sad expression for a second.
    "I see..."

Jason went about building his city, making the skyscrapers soar ever higher and the vehicles ever faster, while the Creator did as it pleased, and sometimes made small talk.

As he finished the thirtieth skyscraper, the waves of white came in and he awoke.
    ------
    "Dr. Helmin?"

    "Yes, Jason?"

"How long was I in there?"

"No longer than six minutes, why?"

"It was three and a half months!"

The Doctor seemed disturbed by this news. "Interesting... Tell me, did anything happen that was... Out of the ordinary?"

Jason proceeded to tell him the story of meeting the Creator, and how he'd almost died.

"Interesting... That must have been the bad code."

    Jason looked at him questioningly.

"The Creator became sentient and hid all it's code for five minutes."

    "Oh."

Three days later, Jason went back to the lab.
