Claims the Earth is 'stationary'.

  1. I was browsing on the Internet a couple days ago, and I noticed this news article with claims from a Saudi Muslim cleric called Sheikh Bandar al-Khaibari, shown below.

He claims that the planet Earth is stationary, and that it is the Sun that rotates around the Earth, not the other way around as it has been explained to us from the beginning.

He used a cup to explain why he thinks this to be true, these were his words while explaining his theory: "Focus with me, this is Earth;" he said, holding the cup.

"If you say that it rotates, if we leave Sharjah airport (in the UAE) on an international flight to China, the Earth is rotating, right?"

"So if the plane stops still on air, wouldn't China be coming towards it? True or not?"

Waving the cup and his hand round in a circle, he went on to claim: "If the Earth rotates in the other direction, the plane will not be able to get to China because China is also rotating."

Naked Scientists at Cambridge University explain that "the atmosphere is moving with the surface of the Earth below it because there's friction... you continue to move with the surface of the Earth, so there's no difference flying with the rotation of the Earth or against it."

Now my question is, if the Earth does not rotate as this guy claims, how does this happens :?:

I was bored and decided to elaborate this thread in order to bring some constructive criticism into the forums. I'd like to know your opinion on this matter.

Please, do not offend or disrespect anyone's opinion. If the thread gets derailed, I'll ask for a lock

    Happy discussing! :p

  2. Reserved.

  3. I think he should consider investing in cable television and try watching The Discovery Channel :|

  4. Good to see the middle east are spending the mass of wealth they are now getting into there scientific projects.........its really paying off

  5. Ok,
    1. Eaths gravity field moves the entire atmosphere with it.
1a. Aircraft gets some boost from gravity field ie gravity assist used by early space probes
    2. You do loose time or gain time while flying. Jet lag

  6. I'm not sure how you've incited discussion - the vast majority will accept the theory that the earth rotates as their is extensive logic and evidence toward it.

Unless you're hoping some believe otherwise and/or will play Devil's Advocate? 

  7. Take into consideration that we live in a vast world, with vast points of view. If this guy had this theory, perhaps other people could think the same.

  8. This guys education is as good as the education of a 3 years old.... Damn? What's physics?

  9. How do the white dots in your pic do that? Duh!...

    1) you commissioned an infidel artist to hand draw that pic

    2) those white dots travel in those routes

    3) would you be so kind as to have one of your unfarmed females fix me a sandwich?

  10. Lmao id like to know what he had in that cup! The earth does rotate, very very very slowly, would take forever if China was coming towards a plane. Lmfao he thinks planes can hover?!? Bahahhaha wow, just wow

  11. Actually ArGoli, the Qu'ran states that the Sun is moving. A muslim religious leader can't just claim that Qu'ran is lying, no? Same as Pope will never come and publicly admid that a gospel from New Testament is fake. He will also try to find some fishiy explanation.

  12. At first I was like "dude so stoopid", but then he had a cup. You can't argue against the theory of 'cup'ativity.

  13. But Qu'ran is right. The sun is moving.

  14. Using the plane as the best way to look at this, I see it in 2 ways but which is right?

We all know that while on the ground, all species and vehicles that touch the surface move along the surface by walking or driving BUT as regards the plane:

1: does it excelerate and take off but float in the airs atmosphere until it reaches its destination, meaning the earth rotates but the plane is stationary in the sky, or

2: does the earth stay still (not rotate) while the plane flies it's course to its destination.

Very good topic OP. Would like to see also what others think, without this derailing

  15. Not very very slowly. -Facepalm-

  16. It's kinda relative. Is 1000 miles an hour fast compared to other moving objects in space? There's stuff traveling 5 miles a second in space and that's not really considered fast.

It's fast on earth though. Really, really fast.

  17. Actually, the Earth rotates about 400-500 miles faster than a commercial passenger plane.

  18. No no you are all wrong, the preacher guy is right.

I know this is true, because an omelette told me so.

  19. The sun rotates around the galaxy
