I'd like to start off with the French version of the Canadian anthem: O Canada, Ade due damballa. Give me the power I beg of you. Secoise entienne mais pois de morte. Morteisma lieu de vocuier de mieu vochette. Endonline pour de boisette damballa! Secoise entienne mais pois de morte. Endelieu pour de boisette damballa! (x4) Ade due damballa. Valinchella santeria. Oya shungo yenya macumba. Give me the power, I beg of you. Leveau mercier du bois chio. Secoise entienne mais pois de morte. Morteisme lieu de vocuier de mieu vochette. Endelieu pour de boisette damballa! (x3) Thanks. What possessed me to start off with the anthem you ask? I don't have time to answer. I can't speak of such child's play. This is a thread for people to talk about their weird holiday traditions. Do you overdecorate? Not celebrate Christmas enough? Celebrate it on Boxing Day? Not have Boxing Day? Be creative! In my family we usually wait until Boxing Day to buy presents for discounted prices and then give presents that evening or the day after. Some presents are purchased before Christmas, but most are purchased after. We also go skiing every year before the new year.
Re: Canadian Christmas One question what is Boxing Day is that where you put some gloves on and fight someone
Re: Thread under construction Actually devil Boxing Day is the day after Christmas where people's bosses give them a "Christmas box" gift for doing a good job I suppose but most people spend this day sitting around watching sporting events
Re: Thread under construction I've never heard of that. I've had 3 jobs and I don't remember anyone getting a gift box. All I know of it is that stores have massive sales to get rid of all their Christmas stuff so they don't have to throw it out or try to keep it until next year. Basically Black Friday for Canadians and Britons
Re: Thread under construction I always thought it just refered to the boxes left by the opened presents...?
I've celebrated Xmas different ways since my family is divorced and mother remarried. Xmas at my dad's place is usually his family gathering up at my Tia's (Aunt's) house and waiting until midnight to open presents. Before midnight, we hang around and play games, talk, tell stories, and eating tamales, menudo, or possole (they're hispanic dishes). Xmas at my mom's: I've never actually had an Xmas at my mom's officially, other than what will be small this year, because my grandparents are Jehovah witnesses and out of respect we never really celebrated. But this year, we decorated the house with door and fridge snowmen, hung the ornamets by the ceiling (as we don't have an xmas tree). She said we'll eat menudo on the morning on the 25th and open presents, and hang out with my 1 aunt. Xmas at my Step-dad's: This way was really different from all the other Christmas I had ever had. We went to his grandparent's house on the 24th and stayed the night. At dawn, around 5am or 4am, they woke us up (my sister and I). Kids got to open up our presents, then adults, then seniors. We made hot chocolate and sat around telling stories. That year had been a white Xmas. It was rare as it never really snows in my parts of Texas. Well, I've really enjoyed my Christmas. I don't favor the holidays however. Having to choose mom or dad doesn't really make me happy. But it's all okay. Happy Holidays.
