I got hit - driver turned into traffic and hit me on driver side. I'm a bit shaken up. Witnesses and police all say he was at fault I called his insurance company and I asked about a rental car and if they were going to pay storage fee until I can have it towed to repair shop They said... - we would not guarantee paying for rental until their policy holder accepts liability. If he doesn't, they will need to investigate to determine liability. I was like wtf. I would have to pay for my own rental and hope to be reimbursed. - they all said the same thing about storage fees til car could b towed to repair shop This sounds like bs. Any advice??? Also my car is less than a year old - any compensation I can get cuz the accident hurts resale value??? UPDATE 1 Well I was told that regardless if he does or doesn't have renters insurance - since I need transportation to work...his insurance company must pay for my rental. Sigh...life is easier if he accepts liability My company told me that I'd need to deal with their company directly regarding reimbursement for car rental. Of course I can't rent a Lexus - gonna rent a compact. In regards to which company It seems if I go with mine: I have to cover my $1000 deductible and wait til I get reimbursed from their company If I go with theirs, I dun pay anything out of pocket. But they might take their time and drag their feet. Feels poopy though only had the car for 7 months. UPDATE 2 I read online about diminished car value claim which I can do because my car is only 7 months old. Anyone every do this? UPDATE 3 In the meanwhile geico asked me to pick a repair shop to tow my car. Either I can tow it to a shop I choose or their preferred shop. Thoughts on which one??? UPDATE 4 State Farm has accepted liability. I got some great advice.
Re: car accident insurance question Contact your insurance company and let them deal with the other company and they should take care of you.
Re: car accident insurance question If he's telling them it's not his fault then you need to get the police report and send it to them. Contact your insurance company too as I think they might help you with other insurance company.
Re: car accident insurance question Kingdoms at war forums where most users are <21 is always the best place for advice
Re: car accident insurance question Why on earth are you talking to his insurance company directly? Have your insurance get you the rental car and have them deal with it. That's what you pay them for anyway.
Re: car accident insurance question Insurance companies r the 3rd party n look out for their interests 1st. Call ur insurer n get satisfaction or create grief n bother them til they do. Be relentless.
Re: car accident insurance question Like frog states - do not communicate with His insurance co. Contact your agent and deal with your people. The tow / rental / storage etc should be covered no matter who is at fault. You pay your policy - you get certain benefits and those are usually standard. STFU when speaking to another company - you will hear your words thrown back to you later with a crappy spin to them and your premiums will mostly likely rise.
Re: car accident insurance question Tell your insurance you need it paid for. They will sue the other company to pay back the loss $$. It's a weird process
Re: car accident insurance question let your insurance know. if you have rental car on your poicly then go through them and they investingate if other party was responsible they get the miney from them. and dont get the renters insurance if your tight on money since insurance wont cover it. and most important consault a lawyer. insurance companies are hard to navigate through the red tape.
Re: car accident insurance question Having a rental car it's an service offered by your insurance company. If you opted for such service. Normally you don't get this service by default. Just made an insurance for a friend of mine few days ago and he had to pay around £25/year for this. The other party insurance (no matter if is was his fault) will never offer you a rental car or reimburse you if you are going to pay for one.
Re: car accident insurance question There's nothing to talk with other party insurance company. Their are paid by him to represent his interests. You must talk to your insurance company. They are paid by you to represent your interest.
Re: car accident insurance question Rental cars? Damn, yall got way better insurance than me. Best i could get was a bus schedule.
Re: car accident insurance question Insurance cards normally state never talk to other party in wreak or their Insurance company only the police and them this is to keep your words from getting thrown back at you.
Re: car accident insurance question Tiger by default a policy covers only damages costs. For "colateral" costs you need to opt-in and pay for them. there's only one mandatory "service" that must be covered by policy. Third party coverage. Anything else its optional and you must pay for it. Comprehensive coverage (covers the damage for both cars), rental car offered when you have your car at service, engine breakout coverage, compensation if you are hurt in an accident and so on. You are worried if you'd get a refund for a rental car. If you didn't applied for this service you won't be refunded simple. But be happy. You could lose a leg and get no refund from your insurance company nor from the other party insurance company if you didn't paid for this service.
