Because of Her

  1. "Damn... it's cold," I whispered. Winters in Germany Were so cold and everyone hated them. I lived in Berlin. I was sixteen years old and a full-fledged Nazi.

My father had joined Adolph Hitler and his army last year when the war began. As his son I was forced to join... even though I was totally against everything Hitler was believing in. It was mainly because of her...

    Ten minutes ago...

I watched as she stumbled through the snow. She was five maybe six... and she was really cute. She had curly brown hair and dark eyes. Her face was ascetic and I couldn't help buy smile at her.

"Guten morgen!" I greeted her. "Do you need help?" I asked her. I stopped. I noticed the yellow star on her jacket. She was Jewish. My heart came to a stop. "I... I'm sorry I didn't realize..."

She only looked up at me. She seemed frightened... My uniform... Maybe she knew what was going on around her.

"I'm sorry. I'm not going to hurt you," I told her. I turned to leave by I felt something grab my pant leg. I turned and looked down at her. She wouldn't look at me.

"Please... help me... Mommy and Daddy... where are they? People dressed like you took them away and now I can't find them..." she said softly.

****... I knew exactly where they were. But I couldn't tell her... hell no! I regretted what I was about to do. I reached out and took her hand. "I'll help you find your parents," I said. I smiled at her. I was going to be killed for this... "Damn... it's cold..." I whispered.

  2. It's a short update... but should I continue???

  3. I was cautious. This girl was Jewish... If I was caught who knows what could have happened. To be extra safe I had taken the yellow star of her coat and carefully put it under my shoe and ground it into the ground while nobody was watching. She watched me do this and before we continued on he lightly grabbed my sleeve.

"Excuse me... But those people like you told me not to take that star off... They said bad things would happen if we did," she said softly. I felt anger arise. Damn I hated this! The stupid followers of Hitler and the Nazis! It wasn't something I could just run away from and I was painfully aware of it.

"I know... but bad things will happen if you DO leave it on," I told her. She was confused by this, anyone would be if they were told different. "So... do you have a name?" I asked when we continued on.

    "Anastasia... Kamashev..." she said quietly.

Anastasia...? Russian? So she wasn't German. That still didn't mean anything to Hitler... not that it meant anything in general.

"Ah I see. I'm Artur Von Heiss. I'm a ..." I paused. I didn't have the nerve to tell her. Even if I did he wouldn't understand. "I'm a military man," I said. I smiled down at her to make myself look convincing. She didn't look back.

"You're a Nazi," she said. Her grip on my hand tightened.

    "You know?"

"I may be only eight... But that doesn't mean I don't know what's happening. I'm Jewish, so that means I'm going to one of those camps... I know it's nothing like they advertise on the radio and the television. But that's where you're takin me... isn't it?" she asked. I saw light tears form. "That's where my mommy and daddy are, right?" she asked quietly.

So she wanted to see her parents.

"I am a Nazi. But... I'm not going to hurt you, nor am I taking you anywhere. I'm going to help you."

    "I... don't believe you."

She was definitely mature for her age. She knew what she was talking about.

    "I'm serious. I won't let them hurt you. You're just a kid."

"Them? You work for them don't you? How come you don't like them then?" she asked.

"I don't believe in what they are doing. Or what they are trying to accomplish. I am against Hitler in everything he believes in... But I can't leave my position... it's too complicated explain. But I just can't."

She didn't ask any further. This girl... she was different. I... felt a connection between her and I and I couldn't help but hold her a little closer to me for protection.

  8. "Artur?" her small voice said.

    "Yes?"

"Why is Hitler doing this? How come he doesn't like people like me? We're not bad. We're not different. How come my parents had to die when they were the nicest people ever?! How come all these good people have to die?! What is accomplished by this?!" she cried. Tears formed in her eyes and I listened a she sobbed. I knelt down in front of her and put my arms around her.

"I'm sorry. I do not know those answers. But I do know that that's not going to happen to you. I will keep you safe," I said. I lightly took her small hands in mine and kissed them.

"O... okay," she said, her voice a little 'hiccuply' from crying. She gently leaned over and kissed my forehead. "Thank you."

This girl... this girl. I wanted this girl. I didn't care if people thought disgusted towards me for liking her for being Jewish or because of the age difference. I liked her, and she made my heart feel warm.

"Lets go Anastasia," I said standing up and taking her hand in mine once more. This time I held on a little tighter. "Let's leave this place and find somewhere to go."

"Yes. Anywhere with you. I don't have anyone else to be with," she said softly. "Won't you be killed for this though?" she asked.

"Yes. If they catch me... but that's..."

She forcefully removed her hand from mine and began to run.

"Anastasia!" I shouted. I quickly ran after her. When I caught up to her I grabbed her arm. "Anastasia?!"

"No! Let go! If they catch you they'll kill you! You're to really ready to die because of me! They'll KILL you! So please... don't do this to yourself by making yourself seem generous to help me!" she shouted. She tried to break lose but I grabbed hold of her and held her tightly in my arms.

"That's not why I'm doing this. You mean a lot to me so I'm not going to let anything happen to you!"

    "You just met me!"

"So? Does that give me any reason not to care? I want to help you so I can be with you. I want to help you because I love you. You won't understand my feelings but I care for you a great deal so I'm not going to let anyone touch you or hurt you, do you understand?"

She cried into my chest. "I understand," she sobbed. "I understand..."

This girl... had made me fall in love with her. Although I was twice her age I still found myself wanting her... to be with me... I would do anything... to protect this girl...

  12. I had found Anastasia and I a small inn about 12 miles along the road. It was off the beaten track so we were fine for now.

"Artur? You said you loved me... What do you mean by that? The way daddy loved mommy or the way mommy and daddy loved me?" She asked as we were in our room.

    I blushed. Oh damn...

"Haha, I love you the way I love you," I said.

She frowned. "I don't know what you mean," she said and she began taking her shirt off.

"Wh-what are you doing!" I stammered. "Don't undress now! Not here!" I said in a sort of yelling tone.

She looked at me. "Why not? I'm cold... and my clothes are wet..."

I blushed. "Ah... never mind, do as you please," I said turning around. Oh my god... she was so innocent. I found myself laughing.

    "What's so funny?"

    "Nothing," I responded.

I looked at the wall. I was unable to move. It felt awkward to just be standing there. I saw her in the reflection of the window. She had just finished tying a bow in the back of her dress and flipped her hair out of the back.

"You know, you didn't have to turn away..." she said. "I mean... it's not like your a 'bad man'"

What the?! Was she referring to me being a...

    "I'm not."

She giggled. "I know that!" she said ad she came over to me. She was beautiful. Her hair had straightened from the wetness, but was long and gorgeous. Her eyes were dark and lovely. She wore a small white, sleeveless dress that was tied with a small blue ribbon. "So... do you love me like a lover?" she asked.

"Where did you hear that term?" I asked.

"I've just heard it in places. But do you?" she asked and she got closer. "Do you?"

"I love you..." I said. "But don't ask me what kind just yet... For now, I'm not sure so let's just leave it at that."

"I understand," she said quietly and she curled up into my arms. "But I love you," she said.

I kissed her forehead. I must've looked like some sort of pervert... falling for this girl... it was a bad mistake.
