Chapter 1 'I hate my life.' I thought to myself as I approached the arena. My oponent glared at me as I stepped into the glowing circle. The crowd around us jeered at me while cheering on the man. I wonder how many more times that's going to happen. Oh well. A steel box rises out of the floor in front of me. It slowly tilts open revealing 3 throwing knives and a spiked wooden club. I watch as my oponent pulls a broadsword out of his as well as a small round buckler. This shouldn't take long. The box then lowers back in to the ground. My circle glows brightly for a moment, encasing me in my usual pure white armor. As always, my oponent is garbed in black. A horn goes off, signifying the beginning of the fight. I stand calmly as the man charges me. When he reaches about 8 feet away, my arm flickers and it seems like 2 of the knives grow out of his sword arm. He screams in agony, dropping his sword. Before the man can react, I am upon him, crashing down on the shield. It goes flying and he crashes to the ground. I leap on him and put my last knife above his throught. His face is a mask of terror. "I am so sorry." I wisper, before plunging the knife downward. The crowd hisses and yells at me as I walk out of the arena. I have now killed 142 people there. The whole time, my life has balanced on the edge of a knife.
Chapter 2 That probably made no sense so I'll just explain it some more. Hi. My name is Jordan Rismoor and as I said, I hate my life. I am one of the Paladins. For thousands of years (some say since the beginning of time) the Paladins have fought the Demonwrought. They seek to plunge the world of Skalosk in to darkness and flames. We are the only reason they haven't. The Paladins fight for light and freedom for all. Both of the races have immense strength and speed. They are naturally born warriors. 2000 years ago, a great Paladin named Richard Vightas rose up and openly confronted the leader of the Demobwrought. They fought for many days and their two armies clashed. Slowly, the leader of the Demonwrought gained the upper hand. He pushed Richard to the edge of a cliff. Weary from exhaustion, Richard could not hold out and he found himself hanging on to the edge of the cliff. The leader laughed down at the man as he lost his grip. All seemed lost until, suddenly, a stray arrow caught the leader's attention for a moment. Richard lashed out and grabbed his ankle and they both tumbled over the edge to their death. The Paladins fought hard and drove the Demonwrought back to the mountains in which they lived. The Paladins stood victorious and the Demonwrought were thought to have been permanently expelled from the land. Until 3 years ago. They swarmed out of the mountains and managed to capture many Paladins before being driven away. They took me and many other 13 year olds at the time to a jailing complex next to a large arena. They sent us one by one to fight Demonwrought warriors. That was 3 years ago. There are 14 of us left.
Chapter 3 I have bested many of the Demonwraught. I am very efficient with many weapons. It may have also helped that I am 6' 6" and 140 pounds of raw muscle. The same is true about the other 13 Paladins. After our fights, we return to our jail cells to sleep on our wonderfully soft rock floor beds and our amazing meals of bread, water, and "mystery meat". It is quite the life. The 14 of us are practically family. It is John, Jacob, Andrew, Lucas, Tony, Dalton, Matt, Alex, Jason, Skylar, Violet, Penny, Leandra, and me. I was the last one to fight today and I was relieved to find everyone else alive. I look at the message board and see the man I killed was Joseph. I sigh and sink down in a corner. Skylar walked over and sat next to me. She was incredibly hot. She had golden skin, light dirty blonde hair, and green eyes. It wasn't really much of a secret among us that Skylar and I are dating and the other guys never missed a chance to tease me about it. I put my arm around her. "It's terrible," I say, "That we have to kill all these people." "I know," she says, "but we have no choice." "Yeah. It's just.. Uhhhggg!!!! I hate it!" I say, exasperated. "It's all right. I'll just leave you alone for now." she says. She gives me a quick kiss on the cheek before walking over to talk to the other girls. I sigh to myself. The one bright spark in my pit of a life.
