Invest in new players

  1. I've been playing this game since I was 11 years old, now back then the game was hard to understand, but then that rewarded you when you figured it out with the help of the AMAZING community that was there. It was a game where if you needed something you didn't look for the game to explain it, players did. So if there were rules on chat moderation, you couldn't expect to be warned by the game for those rules the moment you open world chat, you would hope the players would lead the way! This is the same to this day!

Now I have come back after years of not playing yet again, playing and grinding regularly, when on an alternative account ( for the most game experience, have more accounts means more troops to use ) I saw the chat getting spammed with new accounts, clearly all bots I said something, then I went to say another thing about them being all bots, but making the simple mistake of clicking enter when I was in clan ad mode I posted "wow it seems like they didn't like me calling them bots" (as the world chat spam had increased even further) me being a not so knowledgeable player knew I made a mistake making it a wc ad, but thought I'll just go back to normal wc posts and maybe they'll realize it wasn't intentional, especially since I didn't use the ad again. But a few minutes later my account had been silenced, oh the dreaded "silence", the straight "good luck" to new players! With the system only telling you why you were banned, and no real person to help you out, you are put in timeout, for someone deserving, great system! For someone who made a very simple mistake, very terrifying with no way of saying, "hey it was a mistake can't you see that?"
Now I personally don't mind being silenced too too much, although the game is built off being able to speak and learn from the community I'm an old enough player that I know most of what I need to know. But for our new players, making this very same little mistake trying to be apart of the community in world chat, this is the easiest way to decide you don't like a game! I've always thought KaW wasn't the most "new user" friendly as there is a lot to learn, and a whole language you have to decipher, but the fact mods still don't warn with a simple wall post before clicking their punish you button is astounding. It took me 30 minutes to find a forum page I can post on, 11 years and the forums, game, and moderation is severely lacking change. This game could have been one of the best of all time imo, just from the community alone (obviously there is no real gameplay well all like our numbers here) but with the system still like this, how is a new player supposed to say "hey I didn't mean to press that one button and post in that way" before just handed the ban hammer restricting them from the most important part of the game, the community! With still no human being saying hey this is why you were banned, see here about getting a false ban appeal. It's just "our system is perfect no one could mistake it, spend the time you did a bad thing"

To wrap up, I'm not here looking for an unsilence, I'm not here to make some "c'mon devs fix game" I post this to remind all my fellow players, we've put up with the same game for 11 years because we love our community, but when this game has been taking our money and not investing into new players it should send us running in fear. There are some very simple things to change that I think would mean a lot, things like updating the "help" section in the forums, there is no new player help, no "if you felt you were unfairly silenced see here" or "trying to understand what this forum page you're looking at is?" Section in the help. It's just javascript color codes, tos, and cookies! 2 things they HAVE to have there to run the game! They have 1 thing in the help section not required, it's the color codes.
The last change would be finally having mods tell people why they are silenced, not this stupid hide behind ban hammers with no one there to help once you've been silenced. Everyone reading this that has ever been silenced knows it's like you become invisible once you can't type to others, a game where the core is community, has the moderation team that gets to be a their in the night stealing away all plans on playing the game the way its been working for years. This games core is community, and if you can silence new players without warning, how are they to enjoy the community?

To summarize, add more to the "help" section in forums, add a silence appeal or something to help players communicate with mods why they are silenced, I know players can be whiney and beg for unbans, but these are your mods you are proud of, they should 100% be able to handle someone who really made a mistake and was banned before being able to even apologize. Or someone trying to abuse the system.

And for once just add a real tutorials in this game, it's been the same "oh explore this land and build something on it, choose your banner!" It should be a real step by step into the forums, into an epic battle, what legends are, what cs is. It shouldn't be the tutorial devs came up with, but the tutorial players have been giving other players for YEARS. The game is built on community, hell the devs literally rely a few select clans to pay for their mortgages, why do we have to bend to lack of interest in updating this game?

  2. The Help button at the bottom of forums is for literal forum host webpage help, not any particular KaW content.

Moderators cannot ban anyone. Only support can ban people. Moderators can silence players for breaking the terms of use/chat rules. When you are silenced, you receive a private message from a developer account explaining why you were silenced. I agree that the "please see the Abuse section..." part of that message needs revised, as the KaW support site it directs you to has been restructured. A lot of the FAQ information could use some updates IMO, but it's tough balancing that content between the extremes of "too broad" and "too much detail to bother looking at."

As moderators cannot lift silences, you must appeal them directly to support. The only way for a player to contact support is via a ticket from your home screen, same as for any other in-game issue that may arise.
