Clans used to be just on the forums. They'd have a thread for each clan usually. Then the first clan was, I believe, called Templar Knights (something like that). Corinthian was the first mod. Some other early mods were Benny, Kool-aid, cowlegend999. Foxes and iG were the first clans to use the war system, so they both have 120 max members instead of 100. One of the first major leaderboard players was called Raven. Then in 2010 (when I joined) Majesty was the number one, where he remained for quite awhile and then Teja came around. Nowadays it's Cella and Redstar, although I guess Red has quit. KaW has had a few stages as I've seen. The first would be the first year of the games existence, late 2009 to 2010, this was when people were figuring out all the mechanics and the devs were putting the finishing touches, making the clans, making the war system, etc. Then soon after I joined, the plunder war (or pwar) stage began, where two clans would abuse the forfeit mechanic in wars to give OSF (open secret/spy farm)'s obscene amounts of gold, in exchange for letting themselves get hit for days at a time, rapidly selling the most inexpensive potions. To OSF took quite a bit of dedication and free time. Then the devs killed plunder wars after introducing 'epic battles' and mithril. The castle became upgradable, we got new buildings, then new lands. Then the EB stage of KaW came, self explanatory. This was a boring time for KaW as there was about a year and a half where the devs made almost no changes, and the game became monotonous. Many people quit. Then the devs started the Event Stage, which we are currently in, which seems to be their last ditch attempt to squeeze money out of this app before people finally stop playing it. Some fun facts: There used to be no max plunder limit, meaning that the more allies you had the more gold you made, no cap. A player called Swabia came up with the idea of the 'castle code', which would allow you to upgrade your castle (this was back when you could not upgrade the castle), and many a noob tried to figure out the code. A player named Distance who wanted to get rid of an overpriced ally named spragga spread a myth that spragga was all powerful, and could destroy your buildings with his attacks. Soon the ally got hired but the myth still lived on. Spragga briefly became active at one point after this, but is now once again inactive. I'll add more as I remember it, hope this helps for your timeline.
My bad it went up to 2013 really accurate. So make it so this timeline is from the end of that timeline till now
