Fellow forumers, today is world mental health day. According to the WHO (not the fictional doctor, the real ones) up to 1 in 4 people worldwide suffer from mental health problems(that's up to 25 people in your clan!), most are invisible and with the stigma against mental health issues (your psycho etc) it's incredibly hard and takes an extreme amount of bravery for these people to unlock the door. You could be the key that opens it. I'm not going to give you stories, I'm not going to ask for your support, all I am going to ask you for is to take 30 minutes out of your day, sit down with a friend and ask "are you ok?". Those three small words are powerful, you could be a hero to someone, you could be someone's rock, YOU could save a life.
A support system is important of overcoming mental health issues (not saying it's the only important factor). Connect with those around you and check in. Sometimes you'd be surprised at what people are suffering through in silence. Raise awareness, keep an open mind and take the time to understand. Consider your reactions carefully when talking to someone. If they're opening up to you it's because they trust you. If you're suffering through a mental illness, don't suffer in silence. Talk to a parent or sibling or friend or teacher. Get help from a doctor. There's plenty of support lines and websites out there when you're ready. Thanks Rio, for making a thread about this!
Nice thread Rio! Very nice! I'm bipolar so it's nice to see mental health awareness spreading on kaw. Rio, how are you today? ^.^
I love you for this thread AND for the reference to doctor who AND for the reference to the band. I'm a fan of both.
I'm good Ty roxey, fortunately for myself I don't suffer with any health difficulties other than asthma. My wife has various difficulties, which gives me a not perfect, but much better than most people's insight into mental health issues and the effects they have. How are you?
I came across a quote today that seemed appropriate for this: "If 'i' is replaced with 'we', even illness becomes wellness".
I'm all good tyvm, my family is mega supportive and have helped my adult life have more "ups" then "downs" Your wife is lucky to have a supportive husband. not everyone can take a mental health issue in their stride.
