(This is a medium length read) It has come to my attention that KaW "provides" very minimal and, to be perfectly honest, insufficient guidance for new players. New players are pulled into the game with a scanty tutorial that really doesn't explain the things that these new players need to know to have a chance at being successful at this game. It's basically playing a game without knowing its rules, which can get extremely frustrating and probably is the #1 cause of the low new player rates and new-player-quit-syndrome. ("new player" accounts that actually "make it" are 9/10 times alts). Hell, I would have never got into this game without real life guidance, which of course, not everyone has access to The game has evolved (even though some of us don't agree on this), which means it got a little bit more complicated with the incessant cycle of seemingly endless "new" events. For example, I have new players asking me about the PvP event and asking why they are getting inc. They don't understand that they might have accidentally opted into the event because the only explanation of the event can be found on forums, but there is such a low emphasis on the importance of forums. New players gloss over the forums button and neglect the fact that there is valuable information there for them to easily access. It's actually in the best interest of ATA/the developers of KaW to invest in more guidance for new players, because if new players can get a grip on the mechanics of the game, it would make the process a whole lot less frustrating and give them a chance to get interested into the game. Also, it'd be kind of nice to actually see some new players around here! Just because old players leave, doesn't mean that we can't have any other new legends around here. Let's not roll over and die *ahem* Also, you trolls out there, be nicer to new players! You were once them you know... I said what I wanted to say. What do you think? (Oh gawd time to unleash the trolls from their underground holes ) PS. I know I'm a forum noob / overall noob, but you know what? I don't really care, so if you have something not nice to say, go ahead and say it anyway *wink wink* . I'm tired of waiting around and being scared of being judged and I bet a lot of other people are too *shrugs* By the way, I always lurk and read forums, and I honestly think that it's one of the best features of KaW. It's like the longer better version of what WC is SUPPOSED to be. Have fun and always good luck.
When a new player closes out the game and comes back on there's usually a pop-up message prompting them to go to forums.
Just make the forums actually helpful. Make it easy to find an explanation of ebs, build tips, event explanations, etc. I still have no idea wtf is going on and can't find **** to help figure it out.
Totally agree with all the points. Tutorial needs changing. And kaw needs more advertisement. We need skme fresh faces around the game. The reason the gane is dying is because we all getting so old!
The forums button is almost dead smack in the middle of the home screen. Doesn't really get more noticeable than that.
I myself actually agree, I did make a guide for new players which I revamped. I have not posted it yet trying to get the forum to pull it in without the Css getting stripped lol. For those wanting to help new players here's the guide I've created to help along the way, it's still in the works for the entire site but believe it can help. Guide for new players Remember the entire site is still in development
The first time a player closes out the game and comes back on the pop-up message reads: The second time it reads: And the seventh and last time it reads: Also note that these, like TG's guide, are all player-created. The official forum section "Getting Started: Learn the basics of the game" is devoid of content.
I'm tired of being judged for judging. Ridiculous. Also it sucks that the only way to totally understand the way KaW works is to read a ton of ****. I think the only people that end up staying are those that enjoy what they experience when they start and all the information comes up later, if that makes sense. Not many people want to read more than a paragraph or two especially when it's just some random mobile app they downloaded because they were bored.
Well it's also not really a good idea to have new players read a giant block of (possibly dry) information at once either. That's why the tutorial needs to be revamped IN ADDITION to the growing trove of valuable information that is available in forums (created by players!). The truth of the matter is that the PLAYERS of KaW are filling their end of the bargain, creating content and raising awareness for this issue of new player guidance, but the game developers do not seem to be. In the best case scenario, a tactful and clever game design would include a tutorial that would seamlessly guide the player into at least having a chance at success at the game. But that my friends, is something that this game desperately needs.
Honsetly, the log off and log on and log off and log on pop up crap is annoying and would be enough to run most players off. It should happen from the start with the option to skip.
Honestly since id say the introduction of hoarfrost the learning curve for new players had increased massively, and it makes it extremely difficult for new players to get on their feet
I completely agree! Now I know some people are of the belief how easy it is for a new player today given the frequency of events, free LL and slashed prices on other lands. This is really only true if they understand the game. Or at least, partly understand it and are working on understanding it. New players don't always have the knowledge of the game that those of us who have been around a while have. Sometimes that's easy to forget. I suspect there has been lack of input on this front from the devs because they want to make a profit in the here and now. An investment into the future (through new players) is actually in their best interest however, it means no immediate profit. But that is just my thoughts. A new tutorial would be an excellent place to start. I don't think the devs have mentioned ever that there'll be a new tutorial or something? In which case, Titan has done an excellent job. If devs don't want to remake their tutorial - they need to point players to Titan's. Perhaps a bit of a step by step walk through through forums would also be handy.
