KaW: The Success Story

Discussion in 'Ideas + Feature Requests' started by KoS2, Mar 19, 2016.

  1. Introduction

This thread might be a little lengthy, but ill try to space it out as much as possible and make it look all nice. This is simply a forewarning to reduce the numbers of TL;DR posts that will almost certainly follow.

    Why is KaW So Successful?

This is a question that has long been debated, discussed, and argued amongst the community. How did a simple tap-tap game, similar to most of its time, manage to become one of the most grossing apps of 2011 to 2014.

    My Thoughts

I have been playing this game for just over 6 years, (granted I have been known to take a year off from time to time, but for general purposes, lets just say that I am capable of accurately analyzing this phenomenon over time.)

In the beginning, the game was extremely simple. Nobody's maximum CS surpassed 500k, (it was probably even less before that), and the chat simple was even more basic. There were 3 chats, just as there are now, but only in their most basic forms. No colors, no emojiis, just basic, raw text and the intuitition and personality of players around the world. WC was a social and active place, with everything from friendly banter to war cries.

The battle list was the sole source of income at this point, fostering thousands, even millions of player interactions every day. There was no such thing as "farming" or any semblance of a widely "acceptable number of hits". KaW was a battleground, where 10 year old kids duked it out with fathers of 4 who just got off work. The wide age appeal, and the activity required to succeed in the harsh, and often unfriendly environment kept its users coming back all day long.

It is my belief that the social aspect of the game was extremely important in the amazing retention rate that the game held in its early years. The people you met on KaW could grow to be family. You knew them like your brother, yet they could have been thousands of miles away. You shared things with them you wouldnt share with the closest of your friends, because it felt, oddly, safer.

KaW in its early years was more of a social media platform, integrated into a simple, and extremely loveable game platform. Its success can be contributed to its amazing initial community, especially the early forumers, who arose as leaders of the community. It can also be atteibuted to the battle list. A beautiful invention that appears in almost every tap tap MMORPG. The difference here being that it was the sole option for growth. You had no choice but to relentlessly pummel smaller kingdoms into submission for your own personal game. This dynamic sponsored rivalries, friendships, and was the reason that KaW succeeded as a social network.

Just something to think about that I have always found interesting. Feel free to post your thoughts or comments

  2. You're thread has given me boneitis..

  3. Sounds awful.

  4. *Your
And what's the eye version of boneitis? I've definitely got that.
But in all seriousness, KaW is what the people make of it. It'll ebb and flow, and eventually dry up. Enjoy it while it's here.

  5. My phone grammars about as well as this dude plays Kaw..

  6. We don't play KaW silly, we forum!

  7. Wait PRIME, I remember you. You were all over WC and forums a year or two ago after you trashed that guy's dead friend.

  8. That certainly doesn't sound like me.. But who knows, I do a lot of partying so yeah, anything is possible

  9. Thought so  Happy KaWing.

  10. Thanks for coming back.. You should change your banner to "Haven't hit the Bl since 09"

You people are all the same, "look at me I've had an app for 6 years that I never play"..

I'm glad you're back though, and I'm glad my phone is learning to English..

  11. I hit the BL every day. I like WC better tbh. Problem is, Im too small to hit anyone in WC. Dont get any of the nasty responses that I know and love.

  12. And this thread isnt about my 6 years of playing, because lets be honest, playing a taptap game for 6 straight years isnt really a badge of honor. And I don't claim to be an internet tough guy who will "rough you up if you ever dare to hit me on the BL", I just enjoy the more primal aspects of the game  youre being so argumentatitive.

  13. I'm really not sure what your thread is supposed to be about, and no one is arguing with you.. Certainly not me.. I don't even know what I would argue..

You don't have to convince me that you know how to Kaw, your stats and kawledge speak for themselves..

  14. "My phone grammar is about as good as this dude KaWs". It hit me right where it hurts.  I dont even know you. What could I have done to deserve this savagery.

  15. Ah...memory lane.

Of course I started way too late when KAW was no longer like this, but there is the KAW Classic idea that I'd really like to see implemented.

  16. I remember kos. Kawers these days wont make it back then.

  17. That was one of the dumbest things I've ever read

  18. This isnt about the old days really. Its more about KaWs ability to last this long. All the taptap games I played way back then have completely fallen off of the map. And they did so years ago. KaW has significantly outlasted the vast majority of apps of its kind and I think it is interesting how it did so.

  19. Disagree lol there were people from "those" days that made the transition to ebs so when noobs like me came on it was ebs which everyone hit(at least that was my first impression ) so I hit them too. If it was different so no ebs then I would have just played the other way.
