This thread serves as a short list of 'top complaints' on the new forum update. While the update is cleaner looking and has a professional feel, there are a few key shortfalls I've noticed over the last few days: 1. Hard to read. The contrast level between names & posts within a thread, and the grey shading differences between the posts you've read and haven't is too little. Please increase the difference / contrast for easier reading. 2. The original thread date no longer shows on the main forum page. Now it lists when the last post was made to a thread. This makes it difficult to tell whether a topic is actually new or being necro-bumped. 3. No So little you can hardly tell there's any designation for previously posting on a thread. Before there was a little blue spot on the forums you've posted too, making it easy to spot the threads you're interested in. Please add additional observations, and I'll add if a common complaint. No 'it sucks', 'fail' or bad jokes (Kanney ). Let's give the ape coders a top 'To-Do' list on what to improve. Thx.
The quote and report buttons are too close together and too small. Enlarge them and spread them out further. Agreed with the rest of what you said, but I would add that there should be a clearly defined separation between posts. I recommend a dark name background, followed by lighter post count and time stamp, followed by a light background message area. That way, it's more clear when posts begin and end and who the author is.
I did find the color difference between the posts and username bars confusing when the new forum layout was first released, but I've gotten used to it now and I don't find it difficult any more. The original thread date shows when you click on the thread, at the top of the first thread. When you've posted on a thread the icon becomes a little bit lighter, but I agree, it should have been a better way of showing it. The way it is now does not make it so easy to see that you've posted on the thread, but there is a little change in the icon!
The thread creation date should be displayed in the active topics list, not the date of the most recent post. It's in active topics - we already know it has been recently been posted on. What isn't clear (based on its position in AT) is when the thread was posted. This makes it impossible to tell the age of a thread, which I think is more useful than knowing when the most recent post was made. This also makes it more difficult for mods to identify threads that have been necro-bumped.
Support and agreed on all points. Is it just me, or have forums been quieter since the new layout was introduced?
It's a pain in the ass to read, it looks like it died and came back without a soul, i can't tell what threads I've posted on and tbh it was completely un needed. Waste of time
Wrong here, posts you've commented on are now a shade lighter than ones you've posted on. Admittedly it's kind of hard to tell, but it's there.
Cant tell if I've read all of the thread or if something new was added. Hard to tell where a post stops and a new one begins Cant differ between threads I've posted on or not.
Annoyingly i actually agree with the critics on this one, necrobumps are invisible and the icons are pretty poorly coloured :S
It's almost as good as anything ever designed and implemented by any British politician in the last 10 years.
I've gotten used to reading the posts now. It's the AT and other forum listing that bothers me. I can barely tell what I've commented on or not and whether there's any new posts. Plus it's annoying not being able to see when a thread was made in AT.
