Potential alternative

Discussion in 'Other KaW Discussion' started by Pie, Feb 20, 2016.

  1. So there's a thread in the active topics at the moment about charging players nobility to make threads. This has been greeted with generally negative response, and I'm pretty sure that the thread was designed to start an argument. But I was thinking, and perhaps the premise had promise. The truth is that forums have definitely seen better days.

    So a potential alternative has popped in to my head, and I figured I'd let you guys discuss its potential or lack thereof;

The idea is that there is a sort of "thumbs up" style button next to each forumer's name when they post. If you like what the forumer generally posts, you may click the like button to increase their rating. Each account can only 'like' a forumer once, so that it can't be exploited by someone liking someone 100 times.

The idea is that the number of 'likes' that you have received from other forumers correlates to how many threads you can make per week.

For example, each forumer would start by being able to make 1 thread per week. But when they receive 10 "likes", they can make 1 more thread per week. And so on and so forth.

What this means is that your ability to make threads is limited by the general quality of your posts. If you generally have good quality posts/threads, you will be able to post more threads per week as more people will "like" you. Whereas if you normally post spam/bait threads, you won't receive many likes and will therefore not be able to post as many threads.

    To stop exploitation:
-You can only like each forumer once. This means that you have to appeal to a greater number of forumers to be able to make more threads

    - In order to start "liking" forumers, you must have a post count of 500 (edited to 300 due to feedback) or higher. This means that people can't just create statless alts to like themselves, but also means that people have been able to orientate themselves with forums properly before deciding whether to "like" certain forumers or not

    Notes:

    - You are "liking" them as a forumer overall. Not liking the individual post you're clicking "like" on. Perhaps making the button be on their profile will clarify this.

-There is no dislike button. This means that you can measure the trends of when you go liked more, which allows you to know when you were posting better and therefore edit your listing style to what people like best

Tl;dr - Read the thread you lazy bugger

  2. Support. And i hope nobody will like you so you won't be able to make crappy threads like this. Let the statless alts speak.

  3. Support, although 500 seems pretty big imo

  4. A bit mad that you'd be 400 posts short of liking, are you? ;)

  5. Maybe 200 then?

  6. Nobody would visit my threads then...
I wouldn't get the attention I crave from strangers...
    As a result of my

    Daddy issues.

  7. That'd depend on how many people like you. Personally I would because I think you have potential

  8. Yes I am.

  9. Thought that was a troll thread.

  10. Also, couldn't we just make tons of alts lol?

  11. Read the thread and you'll understand why that comment was stupid

  12. I skimmed. Sorry :(
Edit:Read the whole thread and I understand now, post count of 500. Right :3

  13. No problem

  14. 500 seems like a large post amount to be able to like a forum we. I rarely post in forums but am an avid reader, it just seems really high.

  15. Nice edit lmfao

  16. 300 maybe?

  17. Lol I'm open to tweaking the number

  18. 300 would be better, that way the person is obviously active but it's still low enough to be achievable, but not to low where an alt could be made and exploited to easily get many posts

  19. But at the same time you do not want the number so low that an alt could easily make many posts and meet the requirement
