The use of the lock "tool" to close "low-effort", "spammy" threads that "clutter" active topics is completely over the top. It's come to the point where people now joke about Eagle and anticipate the lock of any thread with a low substance OP. I'm not talking about threads that are obviously in need of being locked, they always have and always should be. However the locking of threads that have high community engagement, activity and interest is now commonplace. The moderators are here to do their jobs - that is moderate. Not decide on behalf of the forum community, who are otherwise enjoying a thread, to close and censor a topic. Even worse, is when the community begin to disrespect mods as a result - and not even take their judgments seriously. Just look at all the Eagle jokes, why would anyone respect him any longer with the current community attitude? Just now Chaos locked a thread that was one of the most active topics of the day. I mean who does he really think he is to say that? I was enjoying the thread, many others wee too. Fair enough if it is locked for derailment or ToU violations. Get real, it was a joke and the only one looking for attention is you, censoring everyone who was having a bit of banter. EDIT: What Chaos should do here, is provide insight into how or why the thread breaks the ToU, a valid reason (if there is one) to avoid frustration. How can you lock for low effort if your reasoning and explanation is too? I think the moderators are here to keep forums clean and safe. Not make decision that oppose a large majority of people, based on their personal opinion and the fact they are bored and need something to do. Enough is enough. -A. ༺☠ ∨Ωメ ㄗΩㄗմㄥ工 ☠༻
Chaos has generally been a fair mod over the time I've known him to be honest, haven't seen him even lock many threads there must have been some reason for the lock.
Mods are here to uphold the ToU. Locking for what they PERSONALLY deem as a low effort or attention seeking thread is irrelevant. If they can't find a reason to lock the thread for a break of ToU then it should not be locked. And when providing reasoning, keep personal opinions out of it and stick to ToU.
Obviously if the thread is spammy and receives negative attention it should be locked. However threads that people are enjoying, you are exactly right.
I fully agree that if it's just spam, it ought to be locked. But that's exactly my point - spam falls with in ToU. What a mod deems as effortful or effortless, however, does not.
The mods have always mistakenly thought they have the right to decide what we want to read......I often question the age of some of these moderators as often it seems like a kid has been giving a silence button or a bit of power
I believe all mods are actually 18+...... They did at one stage have younger people, however I believe they have since increased the age requirement due to the actions of the younger ones..
Agreed. Though I (generally) respect mods and I know it's not always an easy role to take on aboard but what I see locked in forums sometimes is quite frankly, a joke. I even emailed devs (which I try to do as least amount of times as possible  ) about one particular thread. Someone had proposed an idea which had already been suggested. A couple posts was made when the mod stated it had been suggested before, proceeded to name his/her reasons as to why/why not the thread was a good/bad idea then locked it. The thread was basically given no chance at all. It seemed a genuine thread, not spammy or trolling.
There is a portal where you can apply to be a moderator. A petition to make a thread for "#support" is spammy and honestly something that can be done in world chat. Feel free to email support: Support@athinkingape.com
I made an excellent thread with fairyfloss and it was locked, deleted and I was forum banned after only one post a few hours ago.
Have you ever heard of a joke? Who are you to say what can go in WC? So could this but I chose to put it on forums. Just like the 7 page active thread you decided to lock.
You are welcome and always entitled to express your opinion. Very much so enjoy reading many enlightening posts that are here. However, as you mentioned - the thread was a joke and after awhile it gets old. If someone is serious for the position, they don't need to be self entitled in a thread about it. Can submit an official inquiry and see how it goes. Otherwise, it's just cluttering the front page,
Let's all be honest here...The Terra for mod thread wasn't even that great. It was basically #Terra4mod every first/second post.
Also is there a portal to apply to have a someone demodded? If you think you are in the right doing that, you need to go Chaos. (In case you couldn't tell, the portal thing is a joke. I know you struggle with humour, or so it would seem.)
