I consider myself a gamer. Well, I used to be. That was before I got my hands on my first iPhone. Before I stumbled across Kingdoms at war and an assortment of others. The decline to my less than religious gaming status began when I discovered KaW. The game itself was new, shiny, a little rough around the edges with gently swaying hips, and ludicrously engaging. As the fan base grew and evolved, so did the mechanics of the game, shaping to what the players wanted and talked about in the forums and local chat channels. As simple as a 'tap tap' is, the players are helpful, the moderators informative and forums where you can find anything to do with the game, from a KaW Dictionary, to fan fiction, ideas for new features and events, guides to equipment and where to find them and anything else you can imagine. This game had me hooked instantly, I found a helpful clan, met some incredible players and have them as friends on social media, literally watched the game grow as I did, watching the rise and fall of Zaft and Umbrella Corp, along with the in-game feud. To a degree, you either were for Zaft, or against them. Everyone has an opinion on notorious families and alliances and these divides span other games developed by the ATA team. Its incredible. I've never had such complete and entire dedication to a game, from a console game, pc or otherwise. I've met real people who have interesting stories and when you play a game for 5 years with the same groups of people from all over the world, they tend to turn into something more than names on a screen. It got to the point where we started making private chat rooms on other apps to keep clan chat private from guests and where we plan war strategy, strips and farms, exchange pictures and joke around. The reason I stopped playing console and hand held games is because of mobile gaming, playing with people, forming alliances and immersing yourself in a 'still growing' universe isn't something you can accomplish with Call of Duty or Halo. These games take a lot of time to progress to leaderboard ranks, and if you can sacrifice time for money, then you can get there faster. But there is a difference between buying something for a boost during a promo, and dropping hundreds, if not thousands of dollars into a mobile game account, something you don't technically own. But hey that's the price we pay for happiness, and I'm happy to pay to play, because it's not a prerequisite of the game, it's an option. And with the right team by you, you don't need to spend absurd amounts for results. So we finally wind around the long track and reach the point I was initially trying to make, I prefer my phone games for the people I play with and the way the games shape to the players. As opposed to hunting down particular people via console or PC networks to get a game with a friend, it works better for me this way. So my question to you is, do you have a game where the people become family and clans become home? Or a game where you spent a stupid amount for something you got bored of? If so, share. I want to hear it. That's not even scratching the mechanics of the game or what the objective is, its just a pleasant surprise I'll write off as a perk.
Answer: no Competitive gamers will always stay with console, I my self love competitive games. The feeling of absolutely destroying your enemy is jus too good. Kaw is more of a social game honestly.
This is an interesting topic! Good one, OP. I think KaW gets at human nature and connectedness, like you said. I think the key difference is that it is a living world, unlike most console games. You can take KaW with you literally anywhere in the world, whereas with a console game, you've got to do it in dedicated times and places, which is constrictive. That's about all I have to say for now, and that's I think is all that can be said. There is a time and place for PC/console gaming. I still do play those games. Although they've tried increasing connectivity, it's just not the same for the reasons I mentioned above. What I think would be interesting is a game that bridged both environments. Maybe something you could manage by proxy, but when you get home, you could pick up an immersive graphical experience that would be the nexus of gameplay - something to look forward to. Some game developers have tried this in the past. I think they need some work, but I'm excited to see what the future has to bring. For example, I'd love it if KaW would have a PC interface that gave you the option of showing the live combat of strips and epic battles - that would be friggin cool as hell!
Kotfe, I would put other examples of games that have swayed me, but I'm afraid that would violate tou. But to each their own, that's not to say I dont still play good old FPS online, coz throwing knives will never get old, although sadly, my passion for console died a little and was replaced by writing and farming. Good friends and fun times
I owned and played many games on the Ninetendo, Snes, Sega, Nintendo 64, Playstation 1 and 2 XBox360 Playstation 4 I'd rather play iPhone games whole sitting on the toilet, at work, grocery lineup or wherever I want The experience has been great and the people I've met all over the world has been amazing In fact, until HTE happened, iPhone games were as fun as manual stimulation to climax .
Not sure if it's answering the question but one of the reason I find myself playing kaw is the flexibility of it to your time! I.e. u can just qickly unload on a EB and say hi in cc and leave or u can sit for 30minute just talking to people in cc/WC/pm/forums etc also I have a console but I rarelt play it now simply due to lack of time but I play kaw a lot
Well I played pc for ages to b exact i played eq n eq2 since they came out fully end game raiding n top ww guilds but I grew tired of set raid times n the random phone calls for contested raids. Then I found kaw nearly 5yrs ago n played it on and off since then. And yes I agree that the smart phone games have killed a lot of true hard core gaming for the reasons cheese has stated.
Incorrect, PC has the largest pro gaming circuit there is, consoles will stay big, but won't ever surpass PC
Iam actually surprised..I personally dont like playing games on PC, just doesn't feel right coz am too used to consoles
