The problem with Kaw

  1. New players isnt going to keep kaw going. Who is going to suffer through tier 1-2 ebs these days ? They need to focus on retaining the 10k who are pissed off and sick of ata's same old garbage. You lose those 10k ...lets call them mids now that you have 150n cs monsters ....and you lose those 10k thats youf core the 10k that still play and upgrade. Lose them and you are mafia wars.
     
  2. They don't care. And if their lego rip off chunky wars or whatever the crap mmorpg takes off they will care even less. Luckily that looks stupid as hell so we might retain a little attention for awhile longer.

  5. I don't know any business where the communication between employees and customers is so... inexistent!

    I can't remember if it was last year (or two years ago) already, when they introduced kaw_community, with the big promises that he would be the interface between customers and devs.

    Nowadays, besides posting announcements and events, kaw_community is nowhere to be found.


    Obviously, I'm an alt, and I incidentally created this account yesterday, while I played with my main for nearly 4 years.
    As a "New Player", here are the most shocking parts:
    • Hiring allies to get to Max Plunder is THE most important thing to do to have a chance to grow. Yet, it's only after the 2nd or 3rd connection that you get prompted a welcome message saying that allies are a powerful part of this game. Great Advice!
    • I'm 400k CS, I make 20M a hit on TFO (with 100% plunder bonus), I can't hit anything bigger without pots, and yet, I need 3B in allies to max plunder!! I got there by intense ally volleying. If you are new and don't know the trick, you need to hit the EB over 1000 times to get there.
    • After you completed 4-5 TFO and you realize you can't hit anything bigger, it gets boring and you really need strong motivation to continue. Especially that nothing happen after you unloaded.
    • I have been hopping from beginners clan to beginners clans... Most have dead CC. I can't blame the admins, players don't stick around, so they lose interest. Also, these admins see the rest of Kaw get bigger while they stick to do crap-paying EB for 0 reward!
    • Last but not least, you start with 5(!) speakers. I used all of them yesterday to 1) get volleyed 2) ask for a clan running TFO... I ran out of speakers after 5-6hrs, and then you are silent... You don't understand anything, and YOU CAN'T SPEAK to seek help in what seem to be the only place alive, the WC...

    Looking from a long-time player perspective, it seemed to me that the game was dying. Having a fresh look at it from the bottom, it looks even worse than expected... :|
     
  6. I like a lot of what Midget pointed out. I grew up with KAW by being part of a balanced clan (then Disciples of the Shadow) that guided newcomers the 'tricks of the trade' and it made things easy

    Today, clans are not as cohesive as the past. The camaraderie of 'belonging' and staying united is missing. Elitist clans or 'EB fairy' clans are not considered 'well-balanced'

    They do not have a mix of active small medium large kingdoms that strive for common goals - to war and to grow together
    Today we do not war as much as a unit. Indy/random wars does not 'harmonize' things

    If there were more of such clans today, like my beloved DoS, I guarantee noobs will learn a lot to survive in the game
    I had the best people to learn from. Chongo, Reynolds(HGL) and Catwomen. And my equal peers (some still play today) share the same understanding

  7. I only read the first post, so idk if this has already been said, but myself had a really hard time when i first started playing. English isn't my first language and when i started i could barely understand anything. There's no support at all in this game for people who don't speak English and this is a huge problem if you want new players.

    Take other successful games as example, most have translations. Most offer support in other languages. How can new players communicate if they don't understand what's written?

    One additional idea would be to add a private clan page open only to clan members with plenty of space unlike the current CP. This would allow them to post ads, special member instructions, helpful tips. This would help facilitate learning. It was slow learning as I was growing and endless typing while I was helping other players.

    Allow the clan to Bookmark threads for easy reference by members. Clans catering to new players would find this very useful to help with normal build stat, epic questions, etc. They might even use threads for some information though it would be better if they could have threads private to just their clan members. Not in clan, can't even see the thread.

    Two keys to retaining new players are information and building relationships at least this would help with the information part and time could help with relationships.

  10. Midget half the new players are alts and people are sick of them resetting and that's why many won't volley, however I support your idea. I've proposed the exact same thing with minor differences. On joining kaw you should be placed in a clan ran by mods or valiant knights etc ( forums are irrelevant really as guides took me 3 years to find any use lol). I even offered to run one of the clans if kaw was willing to agree to it ( I think the clans should have max limit of 200 or so to facilitate larger ebs and quicker growth.

    But this alone won't fix it - ee needs to be non transportable and in divisions to take warring back to clans and give clans a meaning and make match ps fairer.

    But in essence support one of the only threads in a long time that really shows understanding of what made kaw enjoyable.
     
  11. I see what your saying mi, and its a good idea to hrlp the new people, but one thing, new people will not be able to attack hte anyway so that wouldnt help them grow...

  13. Support. Great thread Midget. I really hope the Devs read this and somehow implement some /all of you ideas. To start with an acknowledgment from them on this thread would really show they care

  15. Midget ..... if only I could explain how right you are in so many ways. If only I could.....

    We (Players and ATA) already know threads like this are a prelude to the end. We have been down this very road before and we can already predict the outcome.

    Ironic that history has begun to repeat itself here, in Kingdoms at War.

  16. FC was dead as a doorknob for years until ATA got rid of it. World chat was dead there for several hours at a time before they declared it was being shut down.

    Kaw on the other hand has about 1000x more world chat activity than FC had
     
  17. And about 70% of it are ads (though now diminished thanks to the new silence rule, so it may be more around 60%)
     
  18. I remember when the devs actually interacted with us like humans chatting away and actually being apart of the kawmunity. These days they are more like the cashier at the supermarket, this is one that that has been grinding my gears. They seem to stand back now and we all see them as the enemies for the most part, if they started to get back to the old method of actually interacting with us that would be great.
     
  19. Great thread Midge...support...never been one to complain especially about a free game I don't have to have on my phone. I'll support anything that boosts growth
     
  20. It's creeping in that direction, though. Used to be wc was moving so quickly you couldn't scroll back more than a minute or so. These days i can get back around 8 minutes or so even at peak times. Might not seem like much but it's not a good sign. Forums are also much slower.
