Re: questions: hiking in Kentucky any Tennessee Snake bite kits are traditionally speaking a bad idea. The old adage of sucking the venom out of a bite wound is bad info these days. The best snake bite kit anyone can have is that of a cell phone to dial 9-1-1 with and or take a photo of the snake (if possible w/o getting yourself into more danger) and a flash light. The photo may help local emergency hospital personnel ID the snake and will help to ensure you are given the proper treatment. As for the flashlight, snakes like to hide in dark places and will traditionally run from bright light since their pupils react like ours do. The only other recommendation I can give in regards to snakes or any other form of general first aid info is to know emergency contact info for local EMS/Hospital facilities. I know you were looking for more info on your destination sites, but I thought I'd throw the above out there on snakes in hopes that it may help in the planning process.
If you are going to be in Kentucky then you must eat Kentucky Fried Chicken. It is breathtaking, life changing and will add balance to your over-exercised life.

regarding phone signal- you should be fine if your near cities but if not you better hope there is a highway near. Sometimes companies put towers in random mountains but those are few and far between.
