  1. 60s and 70s rock was without a doubt the best.

  2. The devil was that exact black guy, in a movie about a mediocre guitarist who sold his soul to be great.

  3. You made me antsy with no mention of Floyd until the very end. I was about to rage. Great thread. Shine on you crazy diamond.

  4. Queen is not in the same league as Zeppelin. Zep is the fourth best selling music act of all time. Queen is merely 38th. Mercury is not fit to be in the same room as Plant.

  5. You might also mention the emergence of female rockers in the late 70's. Suzie Quatro, the Runaways, Pat Benetar come to mind.

    Was Boston's monster album mentioned?

  6. Regardless of that being a terrible way to judge music acts, not sure how accurate your numbers are. I googled and first source I clicked on had them ranked 7th and 15th.

  7. @silenco

How else are you going to judge them? By who had the tightest jeans or dated the youngest groupies? Seems sales is a valid way to judge IMO.

My numbers are strictly North American sales from billboard. Worldwide Zep seems to be ranked 7th while Queen seems to be top 20.

I've never liked queen much. They seem too commercial, lyrics too straightforward. Their tunes, much like BTO, were things you listened in passing like at football games or something. led Zep albums became a part of your very fabric.

  8. Man you music noobs. It's not from a movie. The legendary Blue player Robert Johnson had a song called Crossroads where he sings about making a deal with the devil. That pic is of him.

  9. *whispers in background* Nirvana....

  10. Sure but if you go by sales you're opening yourself to acts like Britney spears and the like. Is Britney spears really one of the top twenty musical acts of all time? I have no clue how to rank em,it's basically all down to taste and opinions.

  11. Were you about to rage....against the machine?

  12. Thumbs up everybody!

    For rock and roll!

  13. This thread was misleading; thought it was detailing the evolution of the creatures known as rocks.

  14. rocks dont evolve, god made them perfectly

  15. I'm still stuck in 90s rock/metal

    Awesome thread!

  16. Nothing beats LZIV. Physical Graffiti comes close though

  17. Lmao frog...how you gonna go bustin ole ashes chops....he worked hard on this thread...go make your own if you dont like his info.....its been a while since i have seen an informative and well thought out thread. Thanks ash. Keep up the great work bud

  18. Dude, whomever said I didn't like his info? Ashes is free to either use or ignore my comments as he sees fit. Lighten up a bit.

  19. Nice Ashes, very nice! Waiting for 80's

As of trying to rank the bands or individuals mentioned in this thread - I think that's inappropriate. They all made huge impact on today's music and culture in general. Rest is just a matter of taste and personal preferences
