Chinese woman saves 1,137 dogs from being eaten

  1. So there was an earlier thread talking about Chinese New Year and how they kill dogs to eat there. The theory is, the more they suffer when they die than the better the meat tastes.

Well, if you didn't like that story then here is a better one. A Chinese blogger in Chongqing, China saved 1,137 dogs from a slaughterhouse that we're going to be eaten for Chinese new year. The blogger goes by the surname Peng, and is helping find homes for the dogs.

An estimated 20% of the dogs will be adopted, mostly by breeders, because they are popular breeds. 16 dogs have died from poor treatment, being shipped in a truck, and being in a cage. 30 dogs have been rushed to a veterinary clinic for a sickness.

A volunteer gave a 1,000x1,000 foot space to help all the dogs, and is going to find more room for the sick dogs to put in quarantine, hoping all will survive.

  2. Reserved for bella

  3. I Hope the best for them

  4. I don't know what to do with this information

  5. Or as the festival goers would refer to them as 'leftovers'.

  6. Those poor dogs, damn. Good that they were saved.

  7. My grandparents told me of their time in Kenya, the locals ate both cats and dogs and it was considered rude not to partake. Don't interfere with traditions that you find distressing, they have a different mindset in general.

  8. While that's fine in general, the real issue is that the way they're eating the dogs are extremely inhumane. They're trying to make the dogs suffer as much as possible because apparently it makes the meat more flavorful. There are no animal cruelty laws in china. There have also been stories of people stealing pet dogs from owners simply to eat them.

  9. I wonder if anyone's gonna pickup Michael Vick?

  10. Ah, Peng. Always there when you need it.

  11. what difference would it have been for the dogs whether they were saved or slaughtered? i dont see anybody crying about cows here.

  12. Lol ok crack. Go try and petition against cow slaughtering, see how far you get.

  13. i wonder of how many sign that dont eat meat

  14. Forgive me if I'm wrong but I tried looking up the start or when the Yulin festival started and all I could find was that it started in 2009 or 2010. I seen it at multiple sites after googling it. So I can't say it's that much of a tradition. Anyone know when it started?

  15. The difference is that we try to make the cows suffer as little as possible before we kill them. China is the opposite of that.

  16. From what I see, it looks like it started in 1995

  17. I don't really care about dogs. If that is Chinese culture, so be it.

But, nature should be respected. I don't like the torture of animals, especially ones that are as smart as dogs.

  18. There's bigger problems than the suffering of dogs. Who cares
