This is a simple thread. Laugh if you like, but after seeing all of the locking going on by mods (I'm fairly new to the forums, so perhaps this has been going on for a while) I felt the need to post this thread. I'm not particularly upset, just a little confused. To the mods: Believe it or not, it is actually not necessary to lock every single topic! The thread that "inspired" me to create this topic was this one about PC accounts not receiving daily speakers. Eagle jumped into the discussion and then proceeded to lock the thread, essentially saying "this is the way things are" Why was this a necessary lock? What was the harm in allowing discussion in this thread to continue? Please enlighten me.
I do fully agree in that case. I feel the thread was not spam but a honest area for good discussion instead of a lock
I'm not certain, but it may be that the question/problem had been answered, making the thread eligible for locking.
One that has been suggested literally dozens and dozens of times. I can see if it was suggested maybe once every few months, but some topics are literally rehashed over and over and over again. Rarely is anything new ever added and for the most part players are simply tired of seeing the same things day in and day out. Generally that's why an explanation accompanies a lock for threads like that, so if the op is new and doesn't know about the previous threads will know.
That's what I was about to say. It's pretty pointless to discuss something that is already established, and for solid reasoning.
There's always a chance it could be reevaluated. Besides if that's reason for lock eagle should of stated it and maybe included a link to a thread on it where the discussion could of moved
why lock it just because others have talked about it before? not everyone has been a part of the discussion. feels a bit "snobbish" to me.
Well if the devs would actually do something about it there wouldn't be hundreds of threads talkin about the same issue
In 2010 the web version was tested by several of us. It was specifically stated at NO point should PC accounts be given speakers. The reasoning was to prevent potential spamming of world chat. This is non-negotiable. You are however allowed to purchase speakers from the oracle.
Because alternate accounts can be easily created via pc, while each handheld device can only have one account.
ios and android devices are less likely to be made in bulk because the average person doesn't know how to make multiple accounts on a single device within a small amount of time. It is to prevent people from having one person spam world chat with dozens of different accounts, getting the same message across, unable to be silenced. This also prevents people from posting any amount of messages they want a day without having to buy speakers. Do I think it should be this way? No. Not everyone has a smart phone, the good shouldn't be punished for the possibility of bad; PC players (in my opinion) should get speakers daily too. I believe the developers are creative enough to find a way to single out a PC alike a smartphones UDID. For the developers to do it though, enough players would have to want it done.
@ArmyStrong Many people also use the PC to allow them to access different accounts at different times in case they don't have their device atm. If you were to do that, then the only way you could access any account would be by the original device and since some people prefer to use computers over other devices for things such as EE, it would be annoying for them to not be able to use what they have normally used in past.
I could just as easily create multiple accounts on my phone and spam as much as I want. Two words, Dolphin Browser.
There's a good point. I have a alt on pc and iphone. However the iphone powers up but is too slow and the screen smashed making the pc a preferred device. A whole speaker post was excessive but contained lots of support. Maybe giving feed back and emailing Support@athinkingape.com would get a answer faster than the forum route. Once a forum post gets trolled they go out of control and lose focus on the original reason for post. I can't speak for all mods but I guess forums and wc is a hard task to control maybe locking threads is eaiser to manage them.
Also regarding the speaker issue for those on pc who don't have a device try looking up bluestacks. It emulates a device on your pc but with a fixed udid. This allows you to link one account to it if you wish to generate speakers. I personally don't have to do this as i have an android phone but i use it for other apps that my phone can't run.
^ this is why each time it gets a lock. There isn't any room for it to change and any change will be detrimental not benefitial. Hence the locking of most of those kinds of threads.
