Hi forums, Just a little thread that will likely spark some arguments and/or trolls. *Bill Nye Voice* Consider the following: KaW is a mobile app. A small game designed for casual recreation. And yet look around us... there are constantly OSWs occurring. Often out of hate or extreme competition. War threads are posted everyday, that often incite hatred or intense arguments. People act "hard" in KaW. They post troll comments or wall posts designed to make them sound like a badass. I understand this is a game - it's meant to be fun, so it's no surprising that there are many avid players out there. I'm not even denying that I was ever an avid player a year ago (not with this account, obviously). So here's the question. Does anyone else agree with me, when I say that there are SO MANY people that take this game so seriously?! I mean, come on... Off-System Wars fuelled by hatred! You want to be hard? Don't do it online, it doesn't reflect so well. Also, the concept of tracking peoples' timezones and staying up into the early hours, tapping a screen... It all seems so strange! It all seems so tryhard - it's so funny. I'm not saying people are stupid for doing things like these... I understand games are often addictive/involving. But let's say you aren't familiar with this game, and found about this information. How would you react? Has anyone else ever found it rather funny to consider the tryhard things that us KaWers do?! Discuss.
Many People take this game seriously because for many people this game is a hobby, and our hobbies are important to us. Yes, the awards you win in KaW and the things you do are all just little "ones and zeroes" but, devaluing the importance if KaW as a hobby because its digital, or is on an iPhone is a non sequitur. People who collect postage stamps or practice karate would be offended if their activities were devalued because "postage stamps are just bits of paper" or "karate is just kicking stuff". People spend their free time on things that entertain us, and as such, things that entertain us are important. As for "acting hard" on KaW, most people do that for the Entertainment value. In the end, however of look at it, the KaW enthusiasts have just as much value with their hobby as anyone else. To say otherwise Demonstrates a lack of tolerance, empathy and understanding
Moose that's a pretty in-depth psychoanalysis of the average hobby-er I woulda just gone with a habit developed out of boredom but whatevs
I understand that, and I respect peoples' hobbies etc. Maybe I worded it wrong. I was asking for your opinions on the extravagant things that us KaWers do, if you didn't play the game. For example, if I saw the extent of how OSWs developed - the stripping, harassment, hours spent on this app... But didn't play the game, I would find it incredibly confusing. I would be confused at why people put so such effort into a seemingly "insignificant" mobile app. Apart from maybe Clash of Clans, I can't think of such an app in which the players spend so much time on it.
Oh, and on a side note. Has anyone tried quoting Moose's rainbow text whilst on an Android phone?! IT WRITES OUT EVERY BBCODE FOR EVERY LETTER...HOLY MATTRESS.
Lost my job, marriage broke down and i crashed my moped during hte item phase . Before operation to repair my shattered leg i opted for an epidural so that i could stay awake for tsg unlock . Time consuming ?? Dont make me laugh .
Yes people take it too seriously. Sometimes before you make some stupid petty threat, you need to step back and reflect. It's only a game, chill.]/i]
In RL you can't fight all your battles. You have to pick and choose (unless you want to live in prison) ...ie: in RL "everyone" is someone else's *****. That's the beauty of KAW you don't have to pick and choose. You can fight them all. It seems as though a lot of people forget the "RPG" part of "MMO-RPG" ...ever been to a bar and some drunk asshole spills a drink on you? 99.99% of the people this happens to just smile and says "it's ok accidents happen" while in his/her head they're cussing that person out w/visions of punching the drunk asshole. ..your boss tells you you have to work overtime after you've made plans to go out for dinner. What do most of us do? ..Smile and agree to do it. (Gotta pay your bills, support your family) while in our heads we're cussing the guy out with visions of punching him in the face. ...it's a release from the everyday BS we have to put up with. It's easy to see why people take out their violent tendencies on a game and a WAR GAME at that. ....What I've never understood is why KAWers continue to sell themselves out for something that doesn't actually exist????? ...it's indicative that person is a coward in RL and it shows their RL dysfunction.
What it comes down to is people mistake "seriousness" as RPG ...it's a MMO-RPG people. I seriously doubt most of these people acting like "baddassss" are all that hard in RL or even think they are ...they're just having fun
I'm sure there's at least a few RL "serial killers" and bad mutha fuckers who KAW, but not many and the real ones most likely don't create so much drama trying to convince others that they're "hard" ...lol
It's a shame you fail to see the most obvious reason that people "play kaw" We don't play kaw. It's a game tacked and developed on the back of a chatroom. The chat aspect especially now with clans makes kaw a very sociable experience. For many people kaw is a way to reach out and communicate. Whether at work or at home. Bored at the bus stop or just nothing else to do for a few minutes you can chat away. Some use that as an excuse to act out on a faceless app. Others use it as a form to develop what become very real friendships. The majority of long term players on here will have contacts they regard as friends or even family. On occasion those friendships have gone further. Kaws success has and always will be. It's a social app that brings people together. As long as there is a community playing and sharing a similar past time, people will interact and socialise resulting on their time being spent on here.
..OP didn't ask why we play KAW in the 1st place he asked why people act "so hard" on this game but you are right "most" people play for the "social media" aspect of the game ...most not all, a good percentage of KAWers never CC or talk to anyone (lurkers ...there's a lot of em')
Someone wrote a really good thread about the chat room aspect of KAW last year and summed it up pretty well. Not an exact quote but something like this... "KAW is nothing but a chat room ...those who pay more money get better seats and priority to talk ...." (Something like that) Val might know the exact quote
"Some use it as excuse to act out". Joys of a faceless app. No perceivable harm the aggressor feels justified and better as a result of their action. Fleeting and ultimately futile but a quick fix is better than hitting a brick wall or worse. Something that hits back. But when it comes to LuRkErS. Yes there are a lot. And I can guarantee most of them will read cc and laugh at some point. Or just feel connected and a part of something whether they talk or not. At least publicly. Many LuRkErS will talk in pm only.
