Idea for an Event. A way to encourage PvP

  1. A way to Encourage PvP through an Event

So I had this idea for a kind of "reverse" promo that would encourage PvP and put a new twist on ebs as well. Please realize that I had this idea about 20 minutes ago and I'm sure there might be some problems, but I think it has merit if the community can fix it up.

    I call it HOT POTATO!!!

    Here's how it would work.

    1. The Potato would drop from ebs at random the same as happens in other promos.
    2. The difference is: YOU DON'T WANT TO HAVE THE POTATO!
    3. If you receive a hot potato, you must ATTK/ASSN another player
    4. To get rid of the potato you have to have 3 successful attk/assn in a row in less than (x) minutes. (I'm thinking you have to make the 3 attks within a 5 minute period)
    5. You have 1 hour from the time you receive the potato to make a successful string of 3 attk/assn.
    8. If you successfully make the 3 attk/assn then the potato transfers to your target. They now have 1 hour to pass it on as well.
    9. Failure to pass the potato successfully in 1 hour means that the potato will detonate.
    10. If the potato detonates then who (whom?)ever is holding it has their plunder cut in half for 2 hours.

    11. (Added because of Thantos suggestion) During the 1 hour period before detonation, those possessing a potato will have their plunder increased to 200% (on PvP BL hits only, not on Ebs or in wars) until they complete the xfer. This will provide some benefit for hitting PvP.
    12. Per suggestion: All hits must be from the Battle LIst.
    13. Potatoes will not transfer while in war. You cannot receive one or give one while active in a war.

    Questions/Issues

    1. What do I win?
Answer: Nothing. The goal is to avoid having the potato go off in your possession.

    2. What if I'm not online when the potato gets passed to me?
Answer: Sucks to be you. Play more.

    3. What if I just attk/assn my alt?
Answer: You can do that, but then that alt has to transfer it too. if you just want to bat it back and forth, whatever, just don't fall asleep.

    4. Why wouldn't people just hit inactive accounts?
Answer: This is one major issue I see with this idea. I don't have a real good solution to it. Any help?

    5. Why bother doing this?
Answer: To encourage PvP and make the ebs something to fear a little bit.

    6. Do I win anything?
Answer: No, really. You don't. You can't save them. There is no prize package at the end, it's just a way to get people to experience more parts of the game and shake things up a bit.

    7. How long would this even last?
    Answer: IDK. A week, maybe?

So That's my idea. I haven't seen any similar so I thought I'd throw it out there.

  2. Well it encourages SOME pvp but what if the player is sleeping. They only have 2 hours to pass it on? It'll surely detonate on them. Unless people are awake every 2 hours.

Also it doesn't really promote pvp, just a few hits on each other. Also we want pvp to be profitable in some way, this is not profitable in anyway.

  3. If see your point about profitability. I would argue that this profitability is ONE function of PvP, not the only one. This event would be designed to broaden the involvement of more people in PvP.

As far as not being a massive increase...I think that would depend on the frequency of drops. One issue I didn't discuss is that you'd want a higher drop rate than for your "traditional" promos so that more people are involved.

As far as the sleeping point. I do see what your saying and I had that same thought. I was originally going to say that the clock wouldn't start until you logged on and received notice that you had a potato in your possession.

Also, you could have potatoes stack. In other words, if you had one drop in an eb, then had 2 xfrd to you, you'd have to dump all 3.

Thanks for the input and consideration!

  4. Ha! I like it. Partial solution for some of the issues...while you have the potato, your plunder against other accounts (pvp only, not eb plunder) is 200%.

Then you might want the potato...but only for a bit or it would blow up on you.

  5. I could see that being worthwhile. OF course you'd only have it until you made those 3 hits in a row on the same target...BTW that number 3 was just rather random, it's less than what people call "farming."
There might be a better number for that part.

  6. If you made it pass through BL hits only it stops people being able to hit dead accounts, also means the players are online to pass the potatoes along.

Maybe each time you move the potatoe along you get tokens that count towards loot at the end of the event.

  7. Instead of Hot Potato how about a Snowball Fight? We are getting to that season. Not sure how long this would take to develop tho

  8. Queen: Moose has the snowball fight idea. It's pretty interesting.

The BL solution is perfect. Hadn't even thought of that. The token thing is interesting. I guess people just HAVE to collect something. But I'd think you'd want to up the successful hits. Yes/no?

  9. Make it 7+ successful hits, or maybe you can only pass to a person if you pin them, make sure no soldiers defy the almight hot potato. :laugh :

  10. I just read Moose's thread. I read yours first. Seems moose read my mind 

  11. Paine's idea of making you have to pin target to transfer the potato is also interesting. Makes it a real challenge then.

  12. Part of an issue i can see with having to pin is that there are many ways to self pin without having lost all of your troops due to build types. It would have to be based on hits realistically.

  13. I say that if the potato goes off you cant hit an eb for two hours .

  14. Whilst the idea has merit - I can't see why the EE strompers can't cop it also - osw ppl only don't get access to unholy aura or hide allies - which is another issue altogether, however if this was to get up - include everyone , I'd hate to see EE tools getting bypassed by this - I'd prefer to see forum rage - he didn't hit target coz he had the potato.

  15. More hits on BL and longer period? Support

  16. I see your point, but self pinning to avoid getting the potato could be a valid strategy.

That being said, I tend to agree that pinning not the optimal way to go.

  17. Maybe they have to hit BL to remove the potato

  18. I am not familiar enough with ee wars to know if adding the potato would be an interesting twist. If so, then I don't see why it couldn't apply there as well.
