Lay of the Rimelands - Part 2: Clouded Vision

Discussion in 'Past Events' started by [ATA]Grant, Dec 29, 2015.

  1. Twelve hours earlier, the collected armies of the Rimefolk had mustered upon a snowbound hoarfrost plain. The men huddled in their great fur cloaks around roaring fires, while the Rime Elves milled about casually in the piercing cold of the early morning clad only in their light armor, strolling through the snow as if it was tall grass in the summer, for Rime Elves do not feel the cold.

A large tent had been erected in the middle of the encampment. Inside, Lord Necromancer Othorion, master of the elven forces and High Commander of the Rimefolk armies, was holding a war council with his human counterpart.

Othorion stared at the entrance of the tent, as if he yearned to rush out to war. His slender physique was framed by a majestic fur cloak of considerable size, a ceremonial symbol of his station.

“Lord General,” said Lord Hallgrim of the Silver Executioners, commander of the men of the hoarfrost, “would it not be prudent to await word from the temples?”

Othorion turned and fixed the human with a crimson-eyed scowl. “And why would that be, pray?” he retorted.

Hallgrim, a bearded giant of a man in shining silver-blue plate, held Othorion’s gaze undaunted, though the elven lord’s uncharacteristic scorn troubled him. “It is but a question of hours until your necromancers can break the curse which obscures the Oracle’s vision,” he replied steadily. “Surely…”

“Fool. Speak not to me of Oracles and their fickle reveries,” spat the elf. “I require no Oracle to know from whence came these curses. Can there be any doubt?”

Othorion turned and walked to the entrance of the tent. Hallgrim watched silently as the elven leader peered outside at the assembled encamped armies.

“Apologies, Bjoro,” muttered Othorion after a moment. Behind him, Hallgrim raised an eyebrow; the apology was even more unusual, and in a way, even more upsetting than the High Commander’s outburst. “But the jungle scum must be eradicated. There can be no forgiveness for these actions. There can be no more victims, Bjoro.”

Hallgrim maintained his polite silence. Othorion’s wife Esta had but a day earlier succumbed to the freezing curse, despite the combined efforts of the temples’ best necromancers. Like all the other victims, her body rose up from its death bed, possessed by a kind of black force of murder that compelled it to attack any living thing in sight.

It was by his own sword that Othorion beheaded the abomination his wife had become. He would not allow it to be done by any other.

Hallgrim, who had been present at their wedding so many years earlier, was present at the separation. None other than he understood better his friend’s sorrow.

Yet doubt continued to claw at Hallgrim’s mind. He had never witnessed the elf acting in such a rash manner, nor had he ever known him to risk a single life of an elf or a man without the full backing of the temples and a demonstrably just cause for war.

“Llarum, my friend,” he said quietly, “let us await the word of the temples. Let the men have certainty. Even if the Unkari did send these curses, how can we know that by their slaughter we will lift them?”

“We must bide our time, Llarum. We must grieve.”

“No. There will be no further delays” snarled Othorion, wheeling round, his red eyes flashing again. “The filthy incursion will pay for their treachery. Send out the call. We march in one hour.”

With that, Othorion drew his giant fur cloak around him and walked out of the tent into the frigid dawn with a slight shiver.

Hallgrim stood alone in the small tent. Outside, he heard the calls to march go out, followed by the noises of camp being broken. Every fiber of his being vibrated a warning that a grave injustice was about to be committed...

And suddenly, as his mind replayed the past few minutes, Hallgrim began to understand. With a rising sense of dismay, he realized that he had mistaken righteousness for blind rage, evenhandedness for vengeance, bitter grief for cold fear.

And Rime Elves do not feel the cold.

    Weekend PvP Blitz

During the weekends of January 1 - 4 and January 8 - 11 we'll be hosting PvP Blitz events in a addition to the main event. During these Blitz events you'll collect and steal Unkari Spellshafts from players in order to earn Mistpierce Scrywater to help you with your progress in the main event. Every time you collect 500 Unkari Spellshafts they'll be converted into a Spellshaft Quiver which cannot be stolen.

Rewards for these PvP Blitz Weekend events are based on the number of Spellshaft Quiver you own.

    PvP Blitz Opt-In

To Opt-In to the event, players will need to cast the Descry Target spell at the Alchemist. NOTE: Descry Target will only be available to cast once the weekend event has started.

Warning: Opting-in lasts for the ENTIRE DURATION of that specific BLITZ EVENT and there will be no way to opt-out after doing so.

    Opted in players will:
    • Have their name colored orange to indicate their participation
    • Have a spell indicating their participation on their profile
    • Have their Battle List updated to show only players who have opted-in

    Unkari Spellshaft + Spellshaft Quiver

Once opted-in, players will earn Unkari Spellshafts by attacking other opted-in players. These items are both generated AND ARE STOLEN. The number generated depends on the players size. The number stolen depends on the amount of Unkari Spellshafts they currently have. The higher the number they have the more you'll steal.

Once a player collects 500 Unkari Spellshafts they'll automatically turn into a Spellshaft Quiver which cannot be stolen. These Spellshaft Quivers are what will determine your rewards from the PvP Blitz Weekend events.

    Ice Giant's Hammer

When you hit another opted-in player there's a chance that the Ice Giant's Hammer spell is activated. This spell lasts for 24 hours, and has the following properties:
    • Provides you with more plunder when attacking or stealing from opted-in players
    • Allows you to obtain more Unkari Spellshafts when attacking or stealing from opted-in players
    • Provides you with a chance of creating Mithril out of thin air when attacking or stealing from opted-in players
    • Will be visible on your profile as an active spell
    • CAN BE STOLEN when you are attacked or stolen from by opted-in players. If stolen you will lose the spell, and the attacking player will receive it. Duration is not reset when stolen but continues to count down from where it was for the previous owner.

Note: You cannot steal another player's Ice Giant's Hammer spell when you have an active Ice Giant's Hammer spell yourself.

    Sealed Giantsbreath

The Sealed Giantsbreath item may be purchased in the Marketplace for 59 Nobility Points and casts the Surging Rimeshield spell on ALL of your current clan members. If you already have Surging Rimeshield spell active you will not be able to purchase it until the current spell expires.

This spell lasts for 1 hour and has the following properties:
    • Provides you with more plunder when attacking or stealing from opted-in players
(This is able to stack with the Ice Giant's Hammer spell)
    • Allows you to earn more Unkari Spellshaft when attacking or stealing from opted-in players
(This is able to stack with the Ice Giant's Hammer spell)
    • Prevents other players from being able to steal your Ice Giant's Hammer spell while Surging Rimeshield is active
    • Will be visible on your profile as an active spell

    Rime Chest

As you complete Epic Battles you'll occasionally find Rime Chests. These rare chests can contain a number of goods including Health Crystals, Mistpierce Scrywater, Seals of the Damned, and more!

You can open these chests in one of two ways.

    2) Purchasing a Gold Rime Key from the Marketplace using Nobility. There is no limit on the number you may purchase.

    Rewards + Leaderboards

Please see the event page in-game to view event rewards and leaderboards.
Weekend PvP Blitz events and competing in Wars both reward players with Mistpierce Scrywater which count towards your totals in the main event. Competing in Wars will also reward Hoarfrost Wartokens II, which are needed to compete against other Warring players for Top Tier equipment and rewards. Rewards from the War event WILL STACK with rewards from Clouded Vision.

Rewards will be made available for you to collect through the events page shortly after the event ends.

  2. Same deal, nice!

  3. Devs, do you think we really read the long back story?

  4.
  5. No eq for war like the last 1?

  6. To see which epic battles that drops which event items, go here! :)

  7. No equipment rewards for wars? Is this a mistake?

Good to see a top 500 tier for wars now.

  8. Sorry about that! There is equip rewards for war. It is now fixed

  9. Devs listened about top 500 for war. I'm impressed again.

  10. Thanks, I'm too busy this go round.

  11. I feel like the devs don't really need to explain they should be like;
    Okay 2 items to collect
    War earns them
    Pvp blitz
    Gaint ice hammer
    Cast protective spell

  12. I think I'll just do the pvp and ebs again. I'm ok with 10k rewards

  13. Developers, how about some ZTA with these events?

  14. Am I the only one who reads the even stories? :/

  15. There are always more new players joining the game so the information is important to them understanding the event. Also you know what the community is like. No effort into main post and people would complain saying devs put no effort in and just want money etc etc.

I am glad they listened to the community on adding another tier for wars even if it is top 500 as opposed to a set amount. War is supposed to be competitive though so I understand why they made it that way.

  16. Yes

  17. I have a bug, only top 500 rewards tier is showing in the EE rewards section.
