A Guide for Beginners

Discussion in 'Strategy' started by lililililililililil, May 2, 2010.

  1. Because Corinthian's thread is more of a FAQ and has some complex strategy involved, I want to make a beginners guide where someone who started the game can go to.

Welcome to Kingdoms at War! This game is a special RPG because there is no steady income, meaning you will have to fight to earn your cash.

This guide will cover many basics and things which are unexplained in the help menu.

    TABLE OF CONTENTS
    1. Game Mechanics and Slang
    2. Profile
    3. Communication
    4. Ways to Make Money

    GAME MECHANICS AND SLANG

This section of the guide will show you where everything is.

    Home Page

When you open your KaW application, you will be taken to the home page. Note that most of these items are also on the computer version, just in different places. I will specify if it is not in the computer version.

    Yellow buttons on Home Page:
-"battles" will take you to a page where you can battle kingdoms which are around your level.
-"quests" will bring you to a list full of quests. Quests will be explained later.
-"profile" will take you to your profile. (explained in depth later)
-"clan" will take you to a clan page. (I will not be covering clans)

    Blue Buttons on Home Page
-"leaders" will take you to the people on the leaderboards which are divided into the subcategories of overall, battles, allies, and cost.
-"help" brings you a mini FAQ
-if you are reading this guide, you already know what the "forum" button does ;)

The red "invite friends" button will allow you to refer someone of your choice. It also contains your referral code which you can give to other people to add and give you free nobility and crystals. [iPhone/iTouch only]

    News Page
The news page will notify you whenever you are attacked, spied on, messaged, or bought. It will also tell you when an ally you have bought has been bought by someone else.

    Allies Page
This page shows all the allies you have bought. Allies will be explained in depth later.

    Kingdom
This page allows you to build buildings. The tutorial will have already shown you how to use this page so I will not explain it.

    Items Page
You can buy items here. Items will be explained later.

    Common Slang
    LB-leaderboard
Pin-attack a target until it is "too weak to attack"
    OSF-Open Secret Farm (explained later)
Volley-to continuously hire someone between two people
    Nob-nobility points
    HC-health crystals
    WC-World Chat
Farming-continuously hitting the same person. For more information, go here: http://forum.kingdomsatwar.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=531&p=10314#p10314
    Devs-Game Developers
Mods-Game Moderators. Currently Benny, Corinthian, and Kool-Aid.
bumping-to post something on a thread to "bump" it back to active topics.

    PROFILE (for iPhone/iTouch)
The profile page is complex and difficult to understand. I will explain from the top and continue downwards.

The button marked "view wall" allows you to view messages that have been sent to you.

Under the heading "Clan Info", your Clan Name and Title will be explained.

Under "Your Stats", you can see your current troop or spy strength out of your maximum troop or spy strength. Here is the common misconception: when you battle other people, their "attack stat" and "defense stat" isn't their actual troop strength. It is their bonus to allies. From looking at their stats, all you can determine is their maximum troop strength which is the statistic that shows multiplied by fifty.

Under "your ally stats", your hiring cost and plunder bonus you give (explained later) is shown as well as your owner. Your "bonus TO allies" is in the same ratio as what you see when you view an enemy's statistics. Your "bonus FROM allies" is added to your troop/spy strength from the heading marked "Your Stats".

Achievements shows the amount of battles won and lost as well as quests completed.

The permanent item bonus shows nothing of importance. The items sections show the items that you currently have.

At the bottom of the profile page is a button marked "reset". This will reset your entire account. The only time you should press this button is if you have land completed and want to gain a bonus or if you just want to start over. Do not listen to people who tell you to reset for a profit. They are lying to you.

    COMMUNICATIONS
There are five common ways to communicate to people: world chat, clan chat, walls, forums, and palringo.

In world chat, you can speak to anybody in a specified area (world chats are divided). It will cost one speaker to talk. Every day, you gain 5 speakers until you have 25 or more, but they will only regenerate if you last logged in from an iPhone or iTouch.

Clan chat is a way to communicate with your clan.

Writing on someone's wall is a more private way of talking to someone. However, it is still public.

Forums are for creating threads with certain topics which people cans discuss.

Palringo is a different application you can download from the app store. The lite version is free. Join the group "kaw" and PM the person you would like to speak to in private.

    Ways to Make Money

There are four ways that beginners make money: questing, attacking, stealing, and being volleyed.

Quests are the easiest way to make money early in the game. Go to home page, then quests. Quests allow you a chance to gain nobility points or health crystals and they give you enough gold to survive early game. When you master a quest, you gain awards and unlock more quests.

Attacking. This is the name of the game. When questing starts proving less profitable, go on the battle list and find someone to attack. Make sure you do not hit over 5 times or that is considered farming.

Stealing is the same as attacking except with spies.

Being volleyed is when you ask two stronger players to continuously buy you. You might be able to gain a substantial amount of money from this, but the drawback is that people hate when you ask for volleys in WC.

    ALLIES AND PLUNDER BONUS

Ally bonuses are not effective early game as they add very little to your stats unless you have a lot of them. Beginners should buy allies for the plunder bonus.

What is plunder bonus? When you attack someone, you gain two types of money: plunder, and plunder bonus. Plunder is determined from your buildings, and plunder bonus is based on your plunder bonus cap from buildings as well as allies.

A forge (lvl 3) raises the plunder cap by 144,000
A subterranean factory (lvl 3) raises plunder cap by 324,000
A level 3 guild raises plunder cap by 216,000
A level 4 guild raises plunder cap by 432,000

You can tell your plunder bonus is maxed out when the last three digits of your plunder bonus is 000 (or 500 sometimes).

    BUILDS

There are three common builds: attack, mixed, and spy.

Attack builds have more attack than defense and spy stats. Here is a guide for it: http://forum.kingdomsatwar.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5605

A more advanced guide can be found here: http://forum.kingdomsatwar.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5659

Spies are kingdoms with all guilds. Mixed builds are a mixture of troop buildings and guilds, although they tend to have more guilds. Common types of mixed builds inclued one troop building and forges for the rest of the land. Here is my guide for spies and some types of mixed builds: http://forum.kingdomsatwar.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4473

    ITEMS

Items have two uses: boosting your stats and banking.

    Boosting Your Stats
Although defense items do not seem worth the cost, you will be surprised at how well they boost your stats and ward off attackers. After a person battles with you once, they'll focus on battling someone else instead because they do not want to deal with your defensive items.

    Banking
Here is how attack potions are used. The safest bank in KaW is in attack items. You will lose 25% of your gold, but it is better than keeping your gold out and possibly losing it all.

    NOBILITY POINTS
Nobility points are a different type of currency in the game. They can be obtained through referral codes, quests, and nobility packs. Save them for later in the game because the more lands you have, the more nobility points give you. Use them wisely.

  2. There is still much to add. Please let me know what to add. Also, tell newer players in your clan to come here first.

  3. Sticky. 

  4. +rep 

i gave feedback on your wall btw!

  5.  dident put conclusion on table of contents 

  6. Too long to really read, but I'm sure it's great.

    thanks blumps

  7. "A forge (lvl3)...
    144,000"
    "a level 3 forge...
    216,000"

    Can you explain ? :D

  8. @talk, a level 3 sub is 216k plunder, forge lvl 3 is 144k

not sure if you read wrong or blumps didn't relise

  9. Read "allies and plunder bonus".
    That's only a little error.

  10. I think the (lvl 3) is just to show forges go up too lvl 3 since the plunder bonus for a lvl 3 forge is added later.

Nice guide blumpy I hope u don't mind me using a point or two I may have missed in my guide, I should realy add the plunder and get around to doing my second edit I've been putting it off long enough 

My only suggestions are add ss - screenshots and pots - iteams and maybe also not to hit ppl over 5x so they don't get a clan or any players pissed at them, it's realy good maybe I need to slim down mine and get it as organized as your 

  11. Nice guide blumpy. Support 100% 

  12. Hey blumpy you need to add the definition of 'bumping' a forum post

  13. Thx. The plunder part was my mistake. I'll include all of your thoughts. Keep the suggestions coming.

  14. Blumpy is the master guide maker lol
yea so the only mistake I saw was you say forge (level 3) adds 216k you meant a lvl 3 guild :p anyways great work

  15. Thx cow. Gonna change that up XP.

  16. You only gain 5 speakers everyday on your iPod.

    The rest good job blumpaaahhh
    :D!

  17. Make it known that this is a guide for iPhone/iPod players. Much of that beginning bit would just straight up confuse a comp-only player. :)

  18. 2 of your urls arnt linked properly
    don't forget the speakers bit
fix this up and it will probably earn a sticky ;)

  19. Yeahh up up
    just realized that

  20. Alright :D I'll be correcting it all tonight.
