Work In progress So I was reading this article earlier this week, and decided with the events going on, why not share them with all of you. So basically it breaks players into 4 categories: free players, minnows, dolphins, and whales. Now why this may be humorous, it kinda makes sense. free players obviously play for free. Minnows rarely spend if ever, but spend very little (under 1$). Dolphins spend some (under 35$), but not as much as whales. And whales spend a lot but are less common. Now this game works off of the mechanics that as a minnow, you can buy basically nothing. 1 xtal, 1 boon, or half a name change. As a dolphin, you get about 7 seals, a few pro packs, some xtals, or a nice weekend of pvp events if you can get a few grouped together. Now this is great and all, but here is what I really wanted to hit on: retention rates: graph is from the article Now as you can see, by day 28, about everyone goes poof, except a small percentage. Now why kaw, has made great strides in helping users catch up right off the bat, here is my new suggestion on how to do things: Keep what you give them but start them costing at 1 million gold, and give them 10 mill to start in the tutorial. Re-work the quests to they pay decent as a new player (like 100,000 right off the bat) And gradually give rewards for the first 90 days. At day 1: give em 5 nobs. Can't do anything with them but can buy some speakers. Day 3: give em another 5 nobs Day 7: give em a cool sword. (2% atk & spy atk boost, main hand weapon, quickly replaced by abyssal blade) Day 30: give em an xtal Day 90: give em something, maybe a special ring or trinket You see, if you can keep more players, statistically some would be whales, and a fair number would be dolphins/minnows. The reason ftp players are less valued is there is 0 money to be made off f2p players. If kaw had ads, sure they would care more about probably not much more  any players. But the fact is free players earn kaw 0, zilch, nada. I believe kaw should offer people the ability to watch ads for a chance to win xtals/nobs. (maybe half the rate they are dropped by questing) It would generate additional revenue off of the free players, while just requiring some basic API integration. Now I hope at least 1 worker at ata reads this, since there is much they have to learn from that article, I know for a fact as a coder, it really is not that much effort to integrate those API's. Just set a limit on the videos someone could watch a day to like 3-5 nobs worth, and your set. The rewards that trigger off of the achievements would probably take 2 days work max. I'll probably make another post or edit this one later about the impact whales make on a game.
Re: Minnows, Dolphins, What does this have to do with sea life? Wow, now I'm sad. I felt like I made an impact on the game. Also... Reserved for those who were expecting stuff on marine life.
Re: Minnows, Dolphins, It doesn't have much to do, I guess the abyss? This was just the terms the guy used.
Re: Minnows, Dolphins, Well, you still can. I was just in the make a real thread post. (Please no shark eb gifs)
Re: Minnows, Dolphins, Actually, after reading this thread, that graph doesn't actually apply to KaW.
