  2. A Knight's Tale

    Part 1: A Beginning

Our story takes place in the mythical land of Rogoland. It is ruled by King Charming and Queen Pretty who only think about their heir, Prince Hugly (pronounced who-glee). And all he thinks about is doing something even more famous than his dad. King Charming, fat as he has gotten, also created a school for all peasant children to attend and learn to fight. This "school" is actually just a cheap place where educated people can get paid for creating delusional children. On a brighter side, it is known as IB, the International Battalion. Now, we come to our young peasant, Kaio. This is his story...

"And students, this concludes our education of becoming a knight, we have decided to let all of you to graduate! Congratulations, we hope you can serve this kingdom!"

I heard him also say, muffled, "And get killed."

I sat back in my cheap wooden chair. Kaio was my name. I am 15 and "graduating" from this cheap rip off. I was supposed to be a knight who does some good for my kingdom. Tch, fat chance.

We were dismissed, and I saw some of the other guys greet their parents who presented them with swords and other trinkets for their "passing." It was more like just walking through a market with some merchant trying to sell you some dog droppings. It was plain out annoying. I quickly scanned around, but didn't find sight of any of my family. Them being my mother and sister. My father had... Died, so to speak.

I trudged home to our small little cottage overlooking the hillside, covered with forested land. When I entered, my sister looked at me and said, "Oi, what the heck are you doing here?"

"Is that the way to address your older brother, Onia?" I responded, annoyed.

My bratty sister was so disrespectful. Geez, kids these days. Then my mother joined us.

"Kaio, you have returned! Did you graduate, or did they fail you? But don't be emotional if they failed you, or else I'll owe your sister twelve copper pieces."

I sighed and said, "I passed, Mama."

Both my mother and sister cursed. I looked at them, wide-eyed.

"Erm, ahh, good Kaio, umm... Well you know what you must do, you must slay the dragon that killed Papa!"

Rolling my eyes, I said, "Oh jeez, not this again..."

Let me explain this... You see, my father was a lumberjack. He had a trusty hatchet that he used. Well, I was with him and he was teaching me how to cut down a giant tree for the first time in my life. Long story short, the tree he was cutting down fell on him. When I returned with the news, Mama believed that a dragon had actually killed him. As much as I told her, she refused to believe what I was saying, claiming that I was too young to understand. Yeah, right mom, I was just 13. Yep, that's really young... Compared to your age.

Then Onia handed me a pot and said, "Use that as your helm and go take out the dragon."

I took it and looked at it... What the hell was this thing? I flipped it over and sat on it.

"Hey, go, get going," said my mother.

I looked up to find her holding a broom.

    "But Mom, I jus-"

I felt a broom smack across my face.

    "GET OUT!!!!!!!!!!!"

So my mother chased me out of the house. Me, lugging a pot that was supposed to help me kill a dragon. As I said before, fat chance.
